Soul Calibur V Gameplay Demos from EVO2K11!

Word on the news vine is that during the upcoming top 8 stream for Tekken 6 at Evolution 2K11, Namco Bandai Games International and @FilthieRich will be announcing a few new reveals for Soul Calibur 5! The top 8 stream for Tekken 6 will begin immediately after the end of top 8 for BlazBlue.

12:25pm : opening statements. Introduction of Katsuhiro Harada and Daishi Odashima.

12:27pm : new character announced: Leihua, Xianghua's daughter.

12:29pm : gameplay demo with Zwei and Patroclus, explaining the new critical edge system; it appears that critical edge supers can also ring out. In addition, we also get to see a significant amount of gameplay featuring Zwei's "partner" Ein.

12:37pm : gameplay demo with Mitsurugi and Siegfried. Match takes place on Zwei's new "boundless" stage which has no ring outs or walls. The game looks much faster paced than its predecessors.

12:41pm : closing remarks from Daishi Odashima and Katsuhiro Harada wishing that the game will be featured in an upcoming EVO tournament. Planned release for the game to be 2012, as expected.

2:55pm : @filthirich announces a playable demo of Soul Calibur 5 at this year's Tokyo Game Show.

 

Still waiting on Talim/Setsuka characters. Natsu looks to be someone I could pick up though.

I like Natsu's fighting style. She is better than Taki. And Ivy looks great too. Xianghua's daughter? Wow. Can't wait to see how she'll turn out.

 

there's something wrong with X's daughter's name. Leixhua cannot be a chinese name as it cannot be transcribed to Hanzi. Either there's a vowel missing right after the x (Leixihua, Leixuhua) or the H is out of place (Leixua, Leixuha)...I'm guessing the first case.

If they replace Sets with a badass guy with a cane sword and a straw hat, I won't complain...but I don't want Mits to kill her canonically. Also, I think a couple of rough things and the already improved step will/would make 'Sets' beastly. >_> <_<

Setsuka does not need more lows, she needs more moves. She has so little moves in IV that it almost seems like you're spamming with her because she doesn't have that many moves. 2363B and JF 1BB sets up most of her combos - they need to give her more moves to use combos with.

Oh, and whoever said that Natsu fights like Taki - she doesn't. She fights a lot better due to her possession cancels and uses Taki's own moves to better effect than Taki does herself - sorry to all the Taki fans out there.

Becuase they're replacing some of the most important and iconic characters of the series. And Natsu plays like Taki, looks like Taki, and is related to Taki. To me that's Taki Jr.

Natsu does not play like Taki. Natsu is so much better than Taki because she has possession cancels and lots of other stuff that Taki never had. How does she play like Taki? Stop moaning. Taki is gone. Deal with it.

 

I'm so glad they announce more and more offspring of old SC characters. I guess Kilik is the father, could not really imagine anyone else. :) I'd love to see a child of Seong Mi-Na as well. And I hope they bring Tira back as an evil witch in her 30s.

 

Hmm.. Natsu looked like a lot of fun to play, but since i havent been following much so, did they confirm Taki is not returning? I mean i understand that Natsu follows her style but what if they play it off as Natsu takes on the style while Taki returns with a bit of a different out look. Say more like a ninja master where the move set is similar but different in the sense of mastery? Just a thought of course.

Zwei. Now that seems like an interesting character for the series. I would have to say that we need more info on how he is as when i was watching the vids at Jaxels, it seemed that there could be a lot you can do with him and is summons.

As for all females returning, the list is getting a bit smaller, Talim is still a good shot, same with Tira, as for Soph, Cass, and mina are up in the air i think. X being replaced, would mean that they might have kilik return. This was just something Jaxel spoke about as if they would do a father /daughter thing like they did with Cervy and Ivy, but then again they could say screw it.

Overall, I think the game looks interesting and the flashiness, I think, is needed to get more people interested into the SC series. There needed to be something to make the people be like "yo, this s SCV? maybe i might wanna pick it up " instead of, " oh man another SC, when will they learn ". Just my thoughts of course, but i wouldn't count my chickens just yet, as this seems to be just the tip of the iceberg. Guess we all need to keep up with anything new..

just because natsu has taki's revamped moves and not the EXACT same move as SCIV taki, so people can't say that she plays like taki?

SC taki doesn't play like SB taki because she has 2 kodachi.. oh no.. she's not taki anymore..
SC2 taki doesn't play like SC taki because she's better than SC taki and has moves that SC taki never had..
and so on...

and for the record.. taki's not 'gone'.. ^_^

 

Just saying, I bet Xianghua daughter will be as X in SC1... and BTW the father of LeiXhua is Maxi... I bet.
