Soul Calibur V Gameplay Demos from EVO2K11!

Word on the news vine is that during the upcoming top 8 stream for Tekken 6 at Evolution 2K11, Namco Bandai Games International and @FilthieRich will be announcing a few new reveals for Soul Calibur 5! The top 8 stream for Tekken 6 will begin immediately after the end of top 8 for BlazBlue.

12:25pm : opening statements. Introduction of Katsuhiro Harada and Daishi Odashima.

12:27pm : new character announced: Leihua, Xianghua's daughter.

12:29pm : gameplay demo with Zwei and Patroclus, explaining the new critical edge system; it appears that critical edge supers can also ring out. In addition, we also get to see a significant amount of gameplay featuring Zwei's "partner" Ein.

12:37pm : gameplay demo with Mitsurugi and Siegfried. Match takes place on Zwei's new "boundless" stage which has no ring outs or walls. The game looks much faster paced than its predecessors.

12:41pm : closing remarks from Daishi Odashima and Katsuhiro Harada wishing that the game will be featured in an upcoming EVO tournament. Planned release for the game to be 2012, as expected.

2:55pm : @filthirich announces a playable demo of Soul Calibur 5 at this year's Tokyo Game Show.

Well, that's acceptable. I'm just hoping we don't keep getting kids of old characters. I'm fine with a younger cast, but not one that entirely consists of people from 14-18 outside like 6 of them.

That, and it doesn't make much sense. I mean, that would mean everybody just had sex right when calibur IV ended. :P

As far as gameplay -

Natsu actually looks so much better coming from taki's SCIV play. Considering I love rushdown characters and I played taki for a while in IV, and could list the reasons I felt she was weak, already this gameplay has changed like 3 of them. Not-trash taki is almost instant main.

And I'm also partial to characters with sidekicks for whatever reason. (Eddie in GG, Carl in BB, Hisui/Kohaku in MB... Even outside fighting games I do this: Orianna in League.) So I almost feel obligated to try Zwei. Damnit Namco, I wanted to keep my options open until the entire cast was revealed. Why did you have to hit the two things I like most in your two reveals?

 

You know how it is, they had like 2 years of nonstop crisis there. Seems like the perfect time to relax and get down to business :D

 

As much as I like the new characters, I really hope Ivy isn't the only returning female that's playable.

There's Going To Be A Whole Rack Of Xianghua, Taki, And Cassandra CAS When SCV Releases Lol. Im In Love With Ivy By The Way She Looked. Gets Better And Better Each New Gameplay Showed, She Reminds Me EXACTLY Of How She Played In SC1 Too. Which I Loved Lmao (And Yeah I Typed This Shit In All Caps Im ELATED)

I Have No Doubt Tira, Setuska, And Hilde Are Returning. Their The Newest Characters In The Series. Amy And Talim I Have No Clue But It Seems To Me That Their Replacing The Veterans Of The Game With Either Successors Or Children. Xianghua, Taki, And Ivy Has Been Around For A While It Makes Sense To Replace Them (No Offense To Any Fans). Ivy Was The Exception Though. Also, Im Almost SURE Rock's Son Will Debut In SC5.

Since shes a little younger, maybe she'll be even more playful than Xianghua. 15 years old? We have another child fighter!~

 

Totally trivial, but I like that the characters now have “KO” quips that aren’t just primal screams - such as Pat’s “you’ll pay for this!” and Zvei’s “DAMN YOU!” (best part of the first match, LOL).

 

Pat has some kicks that are straight from Mauy Thai. Thats fu**ing awesome.

ZWEI looks boring to me, but probably because I haven't seen more of his summon (I totally called that like weeks ago, saying that probably made him like Eddie or Carl Clover).

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought he was boring. That wolf looks out of place to me. It might grow on me as the continue developing him though
