Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I guess I shouldn't be, but I'm astonished that people are calling for nerfs after a pre-release showing of a character. Do we even know ivy's frame data? For all we know 90% of her move list could be -13 or worse on block. It was clear from the matches that no one was comfortable in the Ivy matchup (obviously, the game isn't even out yet) or any matchup for that matter. We certainly don't have matchup charts showing she has a surplus of 6:4's and 7:3's in her favor, she could be terrible relative to rest of the cast when played at the highest level. Y'all need to calm down.

Or his leak about the one piece character guest or hwang being in? Or Zasalamel being DLC? Treat his information as gossip until we have proof it's real
Except I doubted and openly questioned that "former Bandai Namco employee" and openly contemplated if I should have even shared it, but since I had nothing to deconfirm it at the time, and they had "convenient coincidences" that lined up with things I had shared and already heard (giving names to characters I openly stated I did not know the names of like Grøh's father and Maxi's lover) which lead to me being like "ok, I will give it a chance benefit of the doubt to be proven true."
It's not. As multiple things I know and have heard from actual, proven, legitimate sources completely contradict it, and things on it that do I have shared already in different instances, going down why it was a fake made to try and fool me to play with vague information.
That's something "leakers" will do to try and make people will actual information they have leaked second guess themselves. I'm guilty of letting that happen to me before but not anymore.

My view is and will always be regarding balance: Buffs > Nerfs
But buffs need more work so I understand why nerfs are more common
I'm of the opinion that we need to still see more to truly know if she really is, but that is an older build. Kneejerk reaction nerfs are something I always take a wait and see approach with.
A great example of a kneejerk reaction nerf absolutely fucking a character up was Sentinel on MvC3. Sentinel's HP was too high when you consider the damage and tools the character has, but they were like "let's just make Sentinel as delicate as they were on the 90s cartoon" and people went from playing Sentinel because they tier whored since MvC2 to such a wide margin of people completely dropping the character and never picking Sentinel back up because he was so squishy and wasn't worth it.
All that nerf served to prove is no one had character loyalty to Sentinel really. lol
But that's what he gets for being a robot with no personality other than "kill all mutants".... which isn't exactly a personality trait so much as its only motivation.

To get the other part of the discussion, nerfs are absolutely necessary if a character is broken or just stupidly OP.
Otherwise, there is always a middle ground and the option to buff characters to raise them up to their level to compensate.

And since I guess I don't always express myself the best that I should (English isn't my native language, so it happens sometimes) what I meant about there being a lot of EVO announcements meant the total amount of Sunday announcements will be more than there were last year.
It wasn't meant to get your hopes up that SCVI will have a lot. That I don't know or what/who all is getting the spotlight for getting announced.
The post I made was meant for getting it out there that EVO will have a lot of Sunday announcements. I don't know an exact amount. Only that there will be more than last year's.
So if you are a fighting game fan, make sure to stay tuned through Sunday at EVO because it's going to be very exciting.

Why didn't LinkRKC perform that "riding on the waves" combo this time? I was waiting all day for that... would have been great for the visual combo mix-up to further showcase Ivy and the game.

Some guys in the chat room were complaining that Ivy should be nerfed - but others were saying that this is a discredit to Link because Ivy is not easy play despite Link making her appear easy. For me, Ivy and Yoshi appear to be the most upgraded, and it was clear when Marginal stepped up with his Maxi that maybe Ivy does possess combo abilities that are possibly unmatched by anything most of the other characters are capable of...?

I hope whoever they announce during Sunday is someone unexpected. The least exciting would be Astaroth and Cervantes because those are super likely to be in the game anyway. Would be interesting if they were to announce the bonus season pass character.

Y'all need to calm down.
I don't think this was directed at me, but just to clarify anyway (since I was talking about game balance), I don't think Ivy needs to be nerfed. She looks to be a really strong character, but none of her stuff looked unfair. The only question is about her guard impact -> summon suffering combo. I assume you can crouch or jump to avoid that? Can it be punished afterward?

The only character I'd like to see nerfed is Yoshimitsu, and it would be more accurate to say I think his 3B and CE are overpowered. They simply cover way too many situations. And this is partially just my opinion, but Yoshi SHOULD be a tricky character to play. Giving him a few "brain dead" moves actually works against his character's design, since it encourages a very formulaic, predictable gameplay style.

Please note that I'm not making any absolute declarations about the SCVI tier list.

Im sure it would depend on which level GI was landed. if it was level3 (so a GI on a poke/throw/RE) and was quick enough then yeah they are fucked lol

OK, let me try to figure out what the problem is here with the other characters compared to Ivy. Firstly, is this normal damage for a low hit that is safe on block? (see red part of the bar)

Can Maxi cause the same damage with any of his low hits that are also safe on block?

This move is some kind of attack throw right? Is it High or Mid? How does it compare to normal throws/damage?

Here's the damage in Soul Charge:

What can Maxi or Taki do in Soul Charge that's comparable?

Here's another one of Ivy's big combos where she lifts the opponent into the air, juggles and then repeatedly whips them on the ground:

But I'm still searching for the biggest of biggest combos that I saw LinkRKC perform...

Holy shit... this is the one I was looking for.... Here it was initiated in Soul Charge AND using that long distance move I spoke about before, which is safe on block:

I call this the "arrow in the sky" combo! Let me get the ruler out... 45% damage maybe? Give me anything that Maxi, Taki or X can do that is 45% damage - with or without Soul Charge??

I think anyone saying Ivy doesn't have close range options is on crack, she has two grabs, one which is unbreakable and ignores GI and the other ignores RE. Oh my God Ivy lacks close ranged lows, surely a flawed character.

Here's a comparison with the best that Party Wolf could manage, albeit after a lethal hit:

Kayane could only match Link's combo using a guaranteed CE post throw!
