Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Nice to see SCVI being advertised on Instagram.

More importantly:

They managed to get a hold of the Siegfried colourized concept art (the unicorn is coloured and the tip of requeim is showing) which is different from the transparent version available in the project soul SC6 webpage. Siegfried and Yoshimitsu are the only ones I'm aware that the high-resolution key art is not available to the public yet.

God! Her face was so wrong! She was my main since her appearance in SC2 and she looks so good in that game, especially with the green costume. I really hope that, if she make the cut to the final roster, they can make her face look like the beauty she is.
This costume for the win.

@UKStormDragon What games have you worked on? I would love to see. Thanks a lot for the very informative post.

No problem. Happy to answer any questions you might have as long it doesn't derail the thread.

I'm haven't been in industry for very long only a couple of years (graduated recently), so there isn't really much for me to put out there officially. The current project I'm working on for the past yearish (that is showing progress) is under NDA sooo, unlike some people I'm not really up for spilling the details on it. There's a couple of side contract work I'm doing but I'm also not too sure what I can say about that either. I can say I've worked with studios like Ubisoft, and Lightning Rod, but those have been for short periods. Sorry, I can't really point you to some of the cool stuff that I've done mainly because I'm not really allowed to at the moment or footage has been revealed as of yet.

I guess I can post a screencap of some pre-alpha stuff for those of you that want to see what literally every game starts out as. This is from an earlier project that was a few months old. It's been scrapped and is getting reworked so there isn't really much here. But this should give you a good idea for those of you who are worried that what you are seeing is what is finalized, that textures and visual imagery tends to be something that gets cleaned up in the final months. Earlier stuff is to make sure that they can establish the direction and have an idea of where to go before investing a crap ton of time into finalizing it.

Most of my experience has been with smaller teams, although I have on occasion worked with some ubisoft guys, and a lot of my info is going to be echoed from some of my friends and colleagues that talk to and work/worked with at the bigger studios like Naughty Dog, Dice, Warner Bros, Compulsion, Ubisoft, Guerrilla, Riot and others.

Eh, honestly I hated where they went with the character face modeling in 4 and 5, mainly with the Asian characters. Taki doesn't look Japanese to me even in SCVI. Xianghua doesn't look Chinese to me neither and same with Seung Mi-na with her Korean ethnicity.
Well, that's how Asians view/like to see themselves as. I for once am completely fine with it.
Anime style is not supposed to be realistic, that's the whole appeal of it. It is idealized fantasy.

When fighters opt for realism in the art design it always ages extremely poorly. People may dislike the cartoon-like aesthetic, but that's the way to make a long-lasting art style.
While that's mostly true, Tekken 4 and 5 still hold up pretty solid for trying to get a semi-realistic look. I especially like how the faces still attempted to look relatively ethnic at this point (for example, compare Jin and Asuka look in T5 to T7). T6 looked odd because of the bloom being dialed to 11 as well as the higher rez not doing the weak recycled models from T4 any favors.

Are you really going to tell me Rugi looks bad in IV? Hell I don't even see Cassandra as fugly as you're making her out to be.
His eyes look way too big for his head lol, especially for a Japanese man. Ivy and maybe Sieg were the only characters that had no problems with their face (ignoring Ivy's other problems, ofc).

6+ hours without fruitless discussions? Good, good! (what's going on, though?) Now, let's just sit tightly and wait for that Astaroth reveal this Thursday.

Quick thingy I made. I'll include a prettier version in the update to the infographic, which is almost done. (The old one is outdated and based exclusively on observation. It's missing some interactions and has fake news like the nonexistent GI option).
