Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

They sure sell better

Online forums aren't representative of the entire buyer-base of SC. At all, actually.

And male-female ratios tend to be kept consistent in games. Expect a 25-35% female occupancy in most post-launch releases. Tira may as well be the only girl in the SP, guests notwithstanding.
And I don't think guest sell the best, I just can't imagine people buying a fighting game to buy a dlc and play their favorite character.
According to Ed Boon, since MK9, guest characters have single-handedly carried season passes in NRS games, and based on T7 and DoA5 fully embracing them, i doubt it's exclusive to MK.

I would really like if developers made available the number of sales for their character DLCs (even though it would be hard with all the people that just take the season pass)

At the same time, most of the popular characters that will miss the roster are females, Setsuka, Cassandra, Hilde and even Viola/Amy would attract more buyers than Rock, Yun and..Algol (?

That said, Okubo was the DLC guy for Tekken 7, precedent is not in the favor of legacy characters, but who knows.

CoD and RDR especially have a ton of predicted market share that will stuff a good bit of potential buyers for SC.
I don't think their window will be helpful, but I don't think it will kill the game, that said Calibur is the only fighter for the second half of 2018, so they supposedly have a clean field.

The Witcher people and the DoA people also showed interest in the game and I'm pretty sure those will help the game. FPS players, the lot I've met, tend to focus on FPS and RDR is another focus completely. I'm somewhat worried, but I don't think it is a suicidal thing, before the Tira thing, which is already subsiding, Calibur VI was cited often as a game to look out in 2018. I hope this blows over when the next characters are announced.

I will be very honest here, I would have loved 2Ps, but I don't get the outcry for them. It feels like such a frivolous thing to get hung on about, just dress the rivals as each other and call it a day.

I will dress Sophie as Tira
Tira as Sophie and Groh as Z.W.E.I if his pieces are on there.
Xianghua as Ivy and Ivy as Xianghua?

Come on guys, we don't have many options for male DLC.

Rock and Lizardman will not be DLC, Raphael may be on the base roster...

We only have ZWEI and Yun-Seong as possible DLC.
While we have Setsuka, Hilde, Viola, Cassandra and Amy on the female side.

It's likely we only have women on Season Pass.

The direction sure is nice but I think if Amy isn't in this one either we won't see her anymore in any other SC (the old team liked her but it doesn't seem to be the case with the new team) , this game is her last chance, every other character that was missing in 5 came back the only one left are Cassandra, Amy and Yun, and I'm pretty sure they will make it in... :(
I feel like Amy will be in Raphael's story but not playable, because it's the time period where she isn't trained to fight nor does she have much reason yet. But that doesn't mean she can't be in SoulCalibur VII or a second season pass.

Amy is a great character, but this is just not her time. There are others yet to be included that have greater presence, and not enough space for everyone. It's not entirely impossible for her to slip in, it's just not very likely against the likes of Hwang, Cassandra, Raphael, Setsuka, and Lizardman.

Alt costumes are the sorts of things I'd be more than happy to pay for. That's inoffensive DLC to me, cosmetic, always nice to see but non-essential if the dev time is better spent elsewhere before release. Cutting them entirely and having us stitch together CaS pieces instead never sat right with me though, it's good for a laugh but always tackier than a proper character design.

It's funny how everybody has completely erased the possibility of brand new characters being in the SP.
It has two things working against it. One, the game is a soft reboot back to almost the beginning of the timeline, so it's mildly surprising there are actually any new characters at all, and two, people wouldn't be nearly as likely to put money down for an unknown than they would an old favorite. See also people who would rather another returnee than a second guest.

I'm not liking how copy and pasted the clothing options and hair are starting to look... AGAIN. For a sequel, they sure showed off the CaS with the least amount of new content. The mummy "race" is probably just that clothing option we got in the previous game that looks exactly the same.

By the looks of the scroll bar, the hair options are pretty much going to be the same, and unless my eyes deceive me, I only saw one new hairstyle.

First, I think this kind of complaint is kinda poorly thought out, yes we're going to see returning equipments, because it makes no sense to make another generic shirt or plate of armor, when the ones present in the past game were good for use already.

Second, we already know there are new pieces and the races thing is mot likely meant to make the CaS in question easy to do, since you're not adding the item that makes the race look the part, for example now you don't have to waste a special equipment slot to make an elf.

Third, we saw Tira's corset and Gloves from her 2P in SCV, which bodes well as far as some costumes coming back goes, not only that with all the DLC things we saw on the CaS screenshots it is likely the DLC for Calibur VI will be unique.

There's a good chance the pre-release screens don't have everything unlocked. I'm all for complaining once we get the full picture--if that picture is disappointing, that is--but maybe hold your horses just a bit?

@Vergeben Did anyone point out the different background used in the later builds of the game? Maybe that's what your source was telling you about.

First build (Sophie & Mitsu build):

EVO Build:

Also, the small circles on the lower right and left side of the select screen did NOT exist in the first build of the game:

It was pointed out that it was different, most notably the clouds, but also the background, but nothing significant that would generate clues.

But yes, the small circles were added new with the extra four slots, which is why they can't possibly be meaningless, unless they were just trolling.
