Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Well SoulCalibur IV has Soul Calibur & Soul Edge as weapons, and those aren't eligible to return now that we're canonizing everything.
I don't think they've really given any indication that the weapons are meant to satisfy some kind of strict cannon scrutiny, anymore than the rest of the creation parts do. Indeed, its hard to imagine why Nightmare would ever be fighting with a weapon that is not Soul Edge, as a Canon matter. That said, if they were going to reintroduce the Soulcalibur/Soul Edge variants, I don't see why they would start with Hwang or any other season two character.

Dammit! Does anyone know if the links for SC6 on the ps store changed in any way since launch in 2018?

Look at this! I feel so STUPID for not noticing this before!

if they didn't have the DLC01 before then I will feel better about myself. But I don't think they generally mess with the links once they are made official right?

I compared it to tekken, and tekken distinguishes their dlc by packs. So if the DLC01 was in the links the whole time, perhaps they planned more than one season from the beginning and we sweated and anguished for no reason for all these months!

Calling the first downloadable content DLC01 is no indication that season 2 was guaranteed, it was a placeholder at the chance of there being a season 2. Season 2 being a thing is only the result of successful sales and community feedback, Okubo wouldn't have mentioned the later if that didn't contribute to season 2 getting greenlit.

Are you referring to Dynasty?
I wonder if he believed all of the stuff he made videos of, or if he did it simply for the traffic. The first example I can think of is that he made a video on the extremely blatant fake leak that SC6 would get FF7 characters as guest characters. The fact videos like that got a ton of views makes me just a little bit bitter that my videos covering SC6 news struggled to get even 5% of his views when I tried my best to be as factual and realistic about all the news and leaks I relayed.

@FluffyQuack

That clickbaiter is just doing it for the money, there is zero point getting bitter over someone who in reality doesn't give a damn about the series. Selling dreams to people who want their beliefs validated has always been a profitable avenue but comes with scum tactics, it really depends what your priorities are for your product.

Yeah, well, welcome to the world and the 21st century in particular my friend: it's always been generally more popular (and profitable) to tell people what they want to hear, and with today's echo-chamber culture, bullshit detection is at an all-time low for the modern world. As to how much of it he believes, I think it's a case of someone being right in the middle between a conscious, willing effort at manipulation and simply having so little interest in avoiding misleading content that the question of whether he believes any of it is almost irrelevant.

That is to say, the degree with which he engages with those questions before taking whatever he randomly heard on some board, recording it, and hitting the upload button is clearly so minimal, I'm not sure it's a meaningful question to ask whether or not he believes it: he was going to publish it regardless and usually without being overly concerned about any such concerns as "is it possible this is remotely true and not just wild speculation by nitwits that I am re-packaging as legitimate industry buzz?"

I want to ask a serious question that could potentially get more revenue into the Soul Series. I played Final Fantasy Brave Exvius for a time and they had a Raid System that people participate in towards a global achievement. So say Libra of Souls had a new network feature that an Astral fissures appear as Raids. The would be time sensitive and unlike a normal fissure you have to pay the in game currency to participate. The opponent has a global Health Bar that would require that they be defeated 50,000 times. So everyone fights said opponent until it’s global health is depleted. This raises a bonus for the participants. You don’t even have to fully succeed at the challenge but the higher reward for the higher contribution. So if you won all three straight matches by knock out would get you more rewards vs winning three straight matches by ring out vs winning the third final battle. Factor in win speed as well. Before you say predatory systems this would simply be about raising the participation of the overall game. Meaning IF they sold anything it would be in game currency, and seeing how currency could be grinder in game relatively easy the monetizing system could not appeal. But these Raids would net you inital rewards if you completed certain criteria during a match. Then depending on the success of the Raid entirely you would receive bonuses. And the company could also reward the participants depending on the rank of your contributions. Now yeah that encourages someone with deep pockets to shovel money into the game for this exclusive reward but it’s beneficial to both parties. But all that becomes another side to this question so let’s just focus mainly on is it a doable concept? Would it bring in more new and old players? Would more current players participate for the hope that there is another avenue to succeed in?

Maybe I should create a video where I collect all of the false leaks and pretend it's all upcoming content. Some of the fake leaks we've had have been pretty funny. Like one guy made a fake leak claiming all of the characters with similar weapons (Lizardman, Seong Mi-Na, Cassandra, Amy, etc) would be in the game but as literal clones like the SC4 bonus characters. The FF7 leak was also funny (well, maybe more sad) because it somehow gained traction despite being so blatantly fake.

Dynastie is far from being the only who does those kind of fake news clicbaits, now it's up to people to sub or not in his channel. Tho i noticed he calm down a bit with those since Ed Boon himself called him out on this subject.

And good news is that there are people that does not rely on that while being successful channels.

@ZionOAS Well because in-game currency is such a joke to obtain now, that wouldn't really be all that hard to do. Most people have already bought all the customization equipment and museum entries if they cared about that, and so SP is worthless, which can be easily converted to gold, or even then, if it was SP for the cost, then gold is easily obtained now, so just convert a lot of gold to SP, I doubt there'd be any incentive to sell the currency. Not that I particularly like this idea or anything, because if the rewards were, let's say customization equipment, then there becomes an exclusionary subset of people that would be lacking. If they give more currency, well that’s pretty whatever too. I’m not sure what they could do to both be fair and incentivize it.

Would probably need less than 50k for a reasonable requirement, since the playerbase might not quite be sizable enough to support that without a good length of time. Time investment for the overall community is important. We already technically spent currency in Libra to get places so it's not like that'd be a big change. Still, make it a reasonable community goal within Libra, arcade, or maybe a simplistic alt mode and it could be interesting. For incentive, maybe make it be customization parts, weapons for styles, or alt. colors/costumes that auto-unlock for all players if the goal is reached. Obviously other things could be involved too as rewards, but that would make for a way to make the idea more appealing. Would probably get people playing a bit more often too, with something new to look forward to going after regularly aside from rank.

I mean, I guess for people who have an interest mainly in single player, this is something to do? But I'm not sure I would qualify that addition as "new content" (and if it is, its only in the strictest technical sense that even a tiny bit of additional code and mechanics qualify) and honestly, I'd rather the were focusing their efforts on something more worthwhile--like one of the many core areas of the game which are still showing mark deficiencies. Adding elements with niche appeal and low impact to the experience which would require development from the bottom up (even if a relatively minor project) strikes me as very poor cost-benefit exchange, and a raid system would require at least some small degree of ongoing maintenance. And the game is formulated quite a bit differently from those which feature raids, such that the value added here is questionable (especially when you consider that just about everyone has unlocked all the gear at this point, and hiding new "loot" behind this new mode would almost certainly be unpopular with the hardcore crowd who probably now represent the majority of people regularly playing the game at this point). This would be a hard sell for me even as a free bonus, and I certainly don't see much of the consumer base paying for it.
