Honestly, and I'm going to be shot down for this i know, I would really like to see Soul Calibur 5 be a return to the style of Soul Calibur 2. While I loved Soul Calibur and sank more hours into it then any RPG could ever claim of me, I easily played SC2 for double that. I learned every trick of every character, every unlisted move, the best situations to use every characters strengths and quirks, and then..... SC3... bug fest, characters with far smaller move lists.... terrible costume designs.... the return to (in my oppinion) less interesting parry system from SC, and new characters with shallow movelists, although Ivy's reduction to 3 stances was nice. Then SC4... and.... star wars cross over? more characters losing moves and gaining Just frames.... fricking Hildegarde <.<..... even worse costume designs... and Ivy now has a billion stances and is completely unintuitive.. and awful medieval boob job. And through out both, the introduction of stun combos. These are probably the biggest offender for me. They take away from every aspect of the game in terms of flow, elegant play. If they wanted the game to have massive damage, they should have just lowered the life total for everybody or made more attacks do higher damage. Samurai Showdown vs Alpha 3 V-ism, if you catch my meaning.
By all means disagree if you believe so, but for me, SC3 and 4 brought the following
Positives:
*Lizardman's style actually flourished and became unique rather then Sophi/Cassi mishmash with headbuts and a unique throw
*Online Play
*Customization (I say this hesitantly because for every custom fighter that is tasteful, there are 50 that hurt my eyes)
Negatives:
*needless reduction of moves. No wall interaction, no jump delay attacks, many slide inputs were removed or changed.
*character styles that were neutered. Yun-seong. Nightmare, Rafael, Talim, etc
*great increase in the amount of moves that have absurd amounts of auto tracking, making sidestepping far less useful.
*Stun combos. OMG stun combos.
*Poorly fleshed out new characters. (at least depending on what you mean by "fleshed")
*Awful outfits designs.
*Four parries vs two. Again I expect people will greatly disagree, but I felt a parry that beats throws or a parry that beats lows was great.
*Crossover with sci-fi? -_-
*over emphasis on just frames
In SC5, I would like to see the amendment of the negatives above. I would like to see either no crossover or a tasteful one. In SC Broken Destiny at least, Kratos was a pretty good fit. Come to hunt down Sophia and Cassandra since he ran of other things to kill in greece. I would like to see art style that is respectful of the characters. Voldo, Astaroth and Yoshi are the guys with silly costumes!
