hate me all you want, this is happening.

I AM CLEARING THIS THREAD. EVERY MEMBER IS TO HAVE ONE POST. FEEL FREE TO EDIT IT AND INCLUDE WHATEVER YOU PLEASE. LET'S MAKE OUR SUGGESTIONS WORTHWHILE.

if any of you would like old posts, to put into your ONE post, or if i have accidentally removed your post (it is hard to remember who already has one after a few pages) please PM me and i will retrieve it and send it to you so that you can copy it into your post and/or restore it. i apologize if the post remaining is not the one you wish. i've done my best to make sure that the first post from everyone is the one that remains, so that earlier posters will still be seen first.

Sorry if any of my ideas are reposts. I really don't have the patience to read all of them.

First of all I really liked the addition of the critical finishes, But I think it would be cool to have other options after a soul crush. Something along the lines of one option to win the round an option to just make it harder for your opponent to win the round and maybe just some sort of special taunt. I always really liked the Breaking weapons in Soul Edge. It would be cool if when you soul crush your opponent, you could either do do a critical finish, a finishing combo (which would require a pretty complex input), a weapon break, or an aggravating taunt.

I would also like to see the return of an interesting single player. I liked the single player in SC3 that also added the strategy elements in. SC2's single player was solid as well and it was definitely more fun to unlock items in the older games than it was in SC4.

As far as play mechanics go, I think the game is great already. It is impossible to get a perfectly "Balanced" game. What is perfectly balanced to one person is completely broken to someone else. As long as its at least as balanced as SC4 I'll be fine with it.

My main suggestions are things that have already been touched on some:

1. Better movement - SC4 engine always felt a bit stiff. BD got things on the right track IMO. Something I did like about SC4's movement however, is that not all characters had the same movement abilities (as it should be).

2. Uniqueness instead of Homogenization- Different characters should have different strengths, weaknesses, and abilities. This was achieved well in SC4. I know it is much harder to make the game balanced this way, but I hope SC5 has this design as well and that Namco avoids what happened with Tekken 6 where a lot of the characters essentially all play the same way.

3. Bangoo

I trust that Namco will do a fine job designing SC5, I just hope they support the game more after it's release.

Online:
  • FIX THE LAG
  • Add practice mode so players can teach others
  • Add tournament mode
  • Add conquest mode or some community interactive play mode
  • Add party system
  • Have better latency detecting options
  • Ability to mute players
  • Remove 40 second timer
  • Access to options menu during character select so you can change audio and button layout
  • Ability to record and upload videos
  • Punish disconnects much more harshly. MvC3 has a great idea with pairing them only against other disconnecters after so many offenses.
  • Weight the ranked mode so it compares skill level. A much lower person should award very little points but take a LOT if you lose, vise versa for a higher ranked. A player should not be able to climb the ladder if they just play easy people for a long time and shake off the occasional loss. You should be able to go down in rank if you lose too much or to a very low level!
  • Add leagues in ranked. Similar to Starcraft, have people audition for what league they enter. This will put you in a league with similarly ranked people as well as prevent new accounts from harming higher ranks if the new account is really an already skilled and practiced player. You will be able to fall and rise to different league levels based on wins/losses and who you beat/lose to.
Offline:
  • Add tutorial mode. This should go over the deeper mechanics such as stepping vs 8wayrun, step-guard, spacing, guard impacts, throw breaking, etc... It should also go over how to do certain moves that are hard for plays such as Ivy's throws or Kiliks Asura timing.
  • Improved Practice mode. This should display soul gauge damage and more info in regards to healing it etc... It should also show us the frames and advantage/disadvantage on hit/counter hit/guard/guard impact/etc... This would gives a LOT more info on what the moves are doing and help new players figure out their fast moves and safety without needing to look at spreadsheets online. Also the ability to record a few commands and set the AI to randomly alternate between the recorded commands selected. Also reveal the JF moves and Yoshi's Tekken moves.
  • Full access to character roster at start. Only custom equipment and non-gameplay essentials should be unlockables. Very frustrating when I bring my game over to a friend's house and must rudely play arcade mode to unlock our characters.
  • Better single player campaign
Custom Characters:
  • Make the hit box of the characters the same as their style character. It's VERY unfair when you play an Astaroth custom that's small and gets out of combos and set ups that would normally work on Astaroth and they whiff. Also make sure they don't have glitchy hit boxes.
  • Improve the faces or add in an advanced face design tool.
  • Give us access to player 1 clothes
  • Have clothes become torn, not fall off, just like player 1 costumes do
  • Give options to search for specific armor to help a Special Mode build, such as listing good 'Impact' armor.
  • Display Special Mode stats at the menu so you dont have to load each item separately to see what it does, you can just see.
  • Balance Special Mode so it's a viable play format
  • Give females and males equal armor. I believe males are currently superior in most builds with their stats.
  • Link stats and perks to an non-cosmetic item. Trying to make a good Special Character results in a terribly ugly mess of a character. You should be able to design what looks good THEN attach stats and perks.
Story:
  • Make a coherent reason for each fight. I want to feel like my character is actually reaching a goal, not killing people to get to one of three bosses and a random ending. Have crossing paths and team ups that reflect the story.
  • Have a default quest for custom characters and the ability to choose different arcs based on decisions
Mechanics:
  • Give Guard Break a purpose. it should ALWAYS allow enough frames for at least one attack to connect afterwards. Preferably with a few options, otherwise it's no different than an unblockable.
  • More control over movement. I want more moves that pull and push the character around so you can guide them to where you want.
  • Easier buffering window. Buffer windows a little tight and often makes for player err.
  • Tone down vertical tracking. Some verticals beat step better than horizontals.
  • Tone down how many perks a move can get. Some moves have too many pros and not enough cons.
  • Add more options to combo and string enders. I want more choice in damage over frame advantage over position over tech traps over soul gauge traps. It would really improve the diversity of combat.
  • Tone down the range on ring outs. long range ring outs should have a reasonable set up and not carry more than 35% of a stage's width.
  • Add in more feints
  • Slightly buff step
  • Make it easier to buffer step inputs, I often get an 8wayrun when i don't want it or a crouch/jump when I try to step guard after block or attack.
  • Increase the game speed slightly
  • Bring back soul charge
  • Make soul charge give a character specific buff such as improving certain moves, stances, SG damage, or giving access to new moves and combos.
  • Add level specific context moves. If you're against a wall your throw will bash their head into it rather than do the usual action. Also maybe add in anti ring out moves like Astaroth's Titan Bomb might have him reach out and grab the ledge to save himself.
  • Improve upon the armor break system. Perhaps have it effect the hit and counter hit stun properties, giving access to new combos or more frames.
Levels:
  • More destructible environments. Perhaps have the levels begin to expand when you break down a wall. I would also like to see characters being thrown out of windows for ring outs.
  • Add other ways to instantly die, similar to a ring out. Having a character get thrown into a pit of flames off to the side would work the same but have unique aesthetic.
  • Have walls that will cause more damage or more stun
Balance:
  • Give Rock guaranteed damage options or unblockable attack throw mix ups
  • Hilde charges reset when hit and can not be charged while grounded or in air from being hit
  • Hilde's C3A needs to be toned down
  • Make Ivy's Serpent's Embrace safer
  • Make Ivy's 5-hit JF worth doing. The reward is NOT worth the risk.
  • Don't nerf Ivy's tits, I don't care if they're S-Tier.
Music:
  • Better music. I have always felt Soul Calibur's music is deeply out of place in a fighter. It's fine for the menus and character select screen but when fighting I'm bored to death by it. It feels like a starting area of an MMO, too peaceful and and lacking tempo and rhythm. Please dive more into war like sounds. Bigger drums, possibly some guitar, MUCH more tempo, more strings. Tekken has vastly superior music for fighting. You can't do techno because it's SC, but you can dive into war drums and other things that have a pulse.
New Weapons:
  • 3 Sectioned Staff
  • Chain and Ball/Blade
  • 3 Prong Sai
  • J-Swords
  • Boomerang
  • Large Shield
  • Bamboo Staff
Support:
  • Please patch the game when obvious balance issues arise. Hilde desperately needed to be nerfed and it never happened.
  • Have representatives pay attention to tournaments and get expert players opinions on what characters need buffs and which one's need nerfs

Well, these are my ideas/recommendations for SCV. Sorry if they're reposts.

1. Characters - Add all former SoulCalibur characters. Li Long, Hwang, Edgemaster, etc. Diversify all clones. (i.e. Rock-Astaroth, Amy-Raphael, Kilik-Seong Mi-na, etc.) It truly feels that Amy stole Raphael's moveset and made it better. Some of the bonus characters in SCIV like Shura and Ashlotte had viable storylines connected to the main story. I'd like to see them return, but a unique moveset. (Seriously, Shura had 4 swords! Badass.)

2. Stages - SCIII had more stages, so I felt a little disappointed with SCIV. I think every character should have a unique stage scattered throughout the world. Almost every character has a background from different parts of the globe. Though, the one thing I found nice with SCIV was the interactive environments, particularly with that circus stage (Forgot the name). It would be awesome to see this extended in SCV.

3. Single Player - Please improve the main storyline. Both SCIII and SCIV's story was pretty weak compared to previous installments. To me, a big draw to the franchise was the unique story. Almost every other fighter out there has no plot whatsoever, but SoulCalibur actually makes it work. Perhaps instead of having non-canonical endings for every character, make everyone's ending connect to a greater, unique plot such as BlazBlue. Add a training guide like in SCIII and SC:BD to help new players get acquainted with the game. Add something similar to Quick Match from Broken Destiny. It was excellent fighting the AI with a specific fight style to help improve my game. Bring Survival and Time Attack back. I think this should be a given.

4. Multiplayer - IMPROVE ONLINE. SCIV was the first to bring online to the franchise. It was good overall, but there were some problems. Make a better netcode and it entice more people to play SoulCalibur. Bring Team Battle back. Bring back replays and add a replay channel. Replays can capture the best moments in SoulCalibur! Like in SCII and SCIII, we should be able to pick our weapons with out costumes. They shouldn't be fixed with any particular costume.

5. CAS - In my opinion, CAS has great depth and customization. I mean what other fighting franchises give this kind of customization? Also, a big draw to SoulCalibur is CAS, so it'd be best to improve on it. Add more armor, faces, etc. However, keep the same hitboxes in CAS for all characters. It's kinda frustrating that Astaroth CAS can get away with stuff because of the smaller hitbox. Don't let the armor break to the point where everyone is in their underwear. It just doesn't make sense to see people fighting with no clothing. Speaking of, improve the armor system. It felt awkward and somewhat pointless in SCIV. I'd like to see it with how MK9 is handling it; parts and pieces of one's clothing is torn/bloody. It makes it more realistic considering that it is a weapon-based game.

6. Mechanics - The Critical Finish system was an interesting mechanic in SCIV and I think that it should return in SCV. However, the orb that determined the soul gauge should be changed or, at least, improved. It was hard to determine when someone was going to be critical finished when the orb simply changed color. Also, instead of cutting to the critical finish per round, maybe the critical finish can only be activated in the final round or when a player is going to win the match in that round. If a player is guarded crushed outside these circumstances, maybe the attacker could perform an automatic combo done only when a player is guard crushed. That way, it won't ruin the flow of the game and it could give the victim a chance to come back from the crush. Also, the tag system in SCIV. It was interesting to see and it would be awesome to see it again with additional balancing, of course.

7. Misc -

I'd wish to see remixes of these three:

If There Were Any Other Way
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UUz-8QYm-E

Confrontation
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xr4aQj_rGgo

Finally, DLC and support post-production. It will make you guys more money and it will show to the rest of fighting game community that SoulCalibur is a contender, not a shadow of Tekken. It will keep the game alive and prevent from dividing the community. Even though our community is not as large as Tekken or Street Fighter, we can show that SoulCalibur is a serious fighting game.

EDIT: Just thought of some cool ideas. Bring the titles from Broken Destiny back and have that visible (along with other stats like win/loss, most used character, etc) when you fight other people online. I think the titles in BD were really unique and they showed who completed what challenge. Also, perhaps when a particular character fights another particular character, they should have a specific opening for that situation like when Cervantes faces Ivy; they should have a special intro that shows the "intensity/importance?" of the battle. Then, of course, there should special endings too, similar to the critical finish endings; they should only occur under certain conditions such as if Cervantes defeats Ivy or vice versa. Like Destined Battles. Speaking of, Destined Battles should return too. Those made the story mode more engaging.

EDIT2: How about adding a Sound Test Mode so we can listen to our favorite tracks without having to play the game? Music is a huge draw for SoulCalibur and adding that would allow players to listen to the music without interruption or noise. Also, even though even music is added in each sequel, going back and remixing classics isn't bad either. For example, the Castlevania franchise remixs their tracks in nearly every game, but it's done in such a way that it feels new or exciting to still listen to. I'm not saying that the whole soundtrack should not have anything original, but there's a lot of classics that we as a community love and would like to see return.

A quick run up of what i feel along with so many others needs to come back for the NEW CALIBUR!
! Soul Charge cancel: This made mind games VERY REAL
! Soul Charge glitch from Sc2: However making this strategy built in with the normal game play
! Buffers: In Sc2 you could buffer ANYTHING and it made the game that much more fun to play
! 2G AKA step guard: In Sc4 2G is USELESS and players should be able to 2G there way around
:::TAKI:::
! BBB(Cancel) NEEDS to come back
! PO execution(Cancel) NEEDS to come back
! Soul Charge Level 1 B2 from Sc2 NEEDS to come back
! 22AAA/88AAA and ALL if not MOST of the variations from Sc2 NEEDS to come back
! 3kkk Soul Charge(Cancel) was beautiful in Sc2 and NEEDS to come back
Soul Calibur 2 was by far the MOST FUN SC series to ever be played as I'm sure most will agree.
With that being said Sc5 needs to be better then SC2!!!! =)

Well i believe that all the important things have been said..
Only thing I ask for in the New Soul Calibur is, That Namco give each characters the proper tools to handle each other character. Making low tier characters be able to handle themselves against high tier characters, if given the proper punishing tool.(IDK if it has been said yet)

Also, can Namco bring back Ai vs Ai.... I enjoy watching computers fights.
(never understood why Namco continues to remove things that made Soul Calibur GREAT!)

! 2G AKA step guard: In Sc4 2G is USELESS and players should be able to 2G there way around

This is wrong on so many levels.

1. Step guard and 2G are not the same thing.
2. You can cancel a step by inputting a direction.
3. Step G allows you to move and defend at the same time, not only promoting turtling but making it much less risky.
4. With that said, there are attacks SPECIFICALLY made to kill certain types of step. Making step g any more powerful makes those attacks much less useful and promotes the 5-10 movelist play that we DON'T want.

I'm not sure what you mean by SC glitch and no comment on the rest, but yeah. I swear, every time I hear people say SC2 was the best one, I have no choice but to believe they're either echoing some ish they heard elsewhere or were too busy being slack-jawed over Link to understand the game. Balanced? I suppose. Best? Not in my eyes.

P.S. I know this'll probably be deleted, but I just had too.

Ok here are a few votes from me at the moment.

1st and foremost. Better online. Improving the netcode would make me happy, im not looking for a lot here, but when I attempt to block the slowest low in the world and normally would block it with ease and instead (since its online) I get hit with the slow move and loose the match because that low leads to a RO or half life. It makes the game incredibly frustrating at times to play online. Also the Idea about Disconnectors having to play dissconnectors is a fantastic idea,we can call it Limbo. And you have to win so many matchs to get out :).

2nd - We want a better story mode. The story in Soul Calibur 1 and Soul edge is the reason I kept playing this game in the beggining. when 3 hit, the sotry seemed to take a back seat to the game which really disapointed me. I liked IvyFanBoys Idea about the story arc Idea, where the single player mode tells the whole story of what happens in this game.

His idea above is, and I qoute;
"Make a coherent reason for each fight. I want to feel like my character is actually reaching a goal, not killing people to get to one of three bosses and a random ending. Have crossing paths and team ups that reflect the story."

If you did this, I would play the game regardless of any other reason, and yes I am a tournament player who understands the game mechanics. Im far from perfect though lol.

3rd - This game needs to be patched post release. All I have to say is one word, Hilde. Also Buff Low tier Charecters when they need it. Personally, I would attempt to follow blizzards lead on patching. They are still patching StarCraft 1 to this day and it is still played heavily around the world. The damn game is over 10 years old now lol. I know this costs money but if its a financial issue, then maybe we could all pitch in 1.99 for the patch? I know its controversial Idea but if it would get the job done I would happily pay that every couple of months. Also if you dont have the latest patch all you would be able to do is pay people with the same version as you.

4th - Some real DLC would be nice (cough) Arthur (Cough) Hwang (Cough Cough) Bangoo (Cough). How Bout some DLC stages that can be realeased over a period of time. A new stage ever 2-4 months would be awesome.

5th - For the love of god Give Rapheal Binds. A Bind is a defensive menuever in fencing that parrys an attack while moving there attack to the oppisite point of line so that a defensive counter can occur. Whats funny about this is that I beleive this the termenology a French Style fencer would use so it would make sense. IN Itallian and Hungarian styles it means to control the blade I beleave. True this is accomplished by auto GI attacks but there is no reward for useing these moves other then 44B. Ive thought about this a lot and instead of bringing back auto evades, make 4A+B,8A+B to have a special animation that occurs when you get the GI where he Binds them and then either can setup for a combo or can do his life sucking trhow. Heck you can mix in a teleport animationand make it really cool. Another idea is to put him into a different preperation stance and force a mixup for heavy damage. The GI window should be made wider as well, Amys Window is far better then raphs. Nothing overpowerd just make these tools useful. Speaking of better tools, He also needs a better step nullifier, be it AA or something else. It doesnt have to be 12 frames but it should catch a stepper. I might be asking for to much with both of those, but please consider them. Really all im asking for Rapheal is to make him a little more authentic as a french Fencer. Also Why not have another style fencer who is rivals with him such as an Itallian style? I know we have amy but she doesnt count imo. If you need information about anything fencing or anything Im happy to help provide information or send you to where to find it. You can find me contact me through Malice if you wish. Im crossing my fingers on this one.

6th- Make the training mode better please. It takes us a long time to devolope frame data and other things. I like how tekken shows safety with attacks in practices mode..It doesnt have to be the same of course. I would love the frame data in the inffo box.

7th - No Hitbox issues with charecters like Hilde and Mina. Mina Got completly screwed by this. Also no charecters like Yoda ever again. The fact that highs and random mids miss this guy and you know youshould have hit him is just wrong. Vader and Starkiller where pretty cool though. If George Lucas is down Id say keep them and put them in 5 as DLC charecters :D. Maybe some Luke Skywalker, Boba fett or Han Solo love too.

8th - I want more Banter before and after the match between charects but not durring lol. MVC3 is the best exampl of this right now.

9th - can we get some Breast reduction on taki and Ivy? Ivys Back has got to be killing her since Cerventes Stole her sould and made her boobs bigger..... Yes I said boobs lol.

Im not asking to break the bank and take a loss, but the more you put into this game to keep it fresh the more popular it will become imo. Also My favorite Soul Calibur is a toss up between 1 and 3. I like 4 a lot but 3 had a lot of things that should hae been in 4 suce as while landing attacks etc. I hated VC though. 1's system seems the most polished to me. I know making a game is hard and long work, but we are a patient community. Any fan of this game wants to know what happens in the story, because the soul still burns.

thx for reading

This is a saterical review of SC4 by Yahtzee. Its done more from a comedic stand point but he does bring a lot of solid points to the table. This would be from the perspective of a casual gamer imo. Enjoy

I've always been a SC fan forever but 5 needs to be improved from 4... A LOT!!!
-Dynamic Customization (Variety of face choices and accessories along with clothes, body, etc.)

-All of the original characters( From Blade-4, habe all of the originals.)

-Bring back WM and CoTS mode back (These modes made the game fun and definantly worth every penny.)

-An improved Intro and Storyline (No kidding right? All of the characters should be included in the intro and the story line should be an improved version of 3's.)

I loved 4 but it lacked everything that 2 & 3 possessed. I'm pretty sure that Team won't let us down with 5 though.

Hiya, long long time SC player here.

One thing that I've been yearning for since SC1 is for each character to be voice acted in his or her native language. Seigfried & Hilde should speak German, Mina and Hwang (Please bring him back) Korean, Xiang and Li Long (Bring him back too) Chinese, Astaroth uhhh?, Cervantes Spanish, etc. I understand having all of them speak English, since basically every video game ever does the same thing for foreign characters, but, in the US anyway, having them all speak Japanese sounds super weird, unless you're an anime fanboy I guess. And either option really destroys my suspension of disbelief (If surviving a hit from a 6 foot long sword hadn't already, but you know). Soul Blade almost had it right, with Western characters speaking English, and Asians speaking Japanese, but then, instead of getting it totally right the next game, they stepped in the opposite direction and now we have this.

Speaking of character nationalities... Okay, Hilde and Seig look very German, excellent. I can believe Amy and Raph are French, good. Rock and Ivy look like they could be British (Even though Ivy is supposed to be at least half Spanish, but okay, she's plausibly that too), but Xiang SURE don't look Chinese, Taki looks more like Megan Fox with those blue eyes than she looks Japanese, Hwang/Yunsung look like some kind of New Jersey guidos, Mina Korean, Talim pinay? Please... and the sisters look more Swedish than Greek. Okay, the sisters can't really be changed without totally re-inventing their whole look, but PLEASE at least make Asian characters look Asian. I don't know WTF kind of problem Japanese have with their own self image, but they must really hate the way they look, because every Asian female in every game I've ever seen has a rare genetic mutation to make her look like she came from South Carolina. SC3 had Taki looking pretty good. (http://ui31.gamespot.com/574/taki_2.jpg) Why did you change? Please, please Jap developers, start to love the face God gave you and quit making every Asian look western.

The next thing I'd like to see is a much better online lobby. I can't tell you how frustrating it was to play "Join game session," "The game session is full," "Join game session," "The game session is full," "Join game session," "The game session is full," "Join game session," "The game session is full," "Join game session," "The game session is full," ten times in a row. If the game session is full, then don't f-ing show it to me as a joinable session.

Also, I hear MK9 is going to have a "spectator mode" where you can watch other people fighting and make comments and give "respect points." That's a spectacular idea and would really liven up the online community.

Some other game, I forget which, [edit: Oh, MVC3], has a hidden code for detecting people who constantly disconnect when losing. Then, instead of doing something ineffective like displaying a "bad disconnector rating," the game keeps the fact invisible, but starts pairing them up more and more with other people who also disconnect. That is an ULTRA-spectacular idea, and would probably just about solve the problem of pullers.

And please, NO GIMMICK CHARACTERS. I know you want every Starwars/Spawn/Zelda/HarryPotter/Sex&TheCity fan to buy Soul Calibur, but let's make them want to play based on the game's great story and awesome mechanics, not on a cheap shoehorned-in gimmick character. Please?

Let us edit ALL of the color on the main costume of the characters in Character Creation. Cause i dont like that red bead on Talim's necklace when the rest of her outfit is purple and blue.
THIS. I hated having that big yellow flower on talim's 2p shirt. Most of the other outfits weren't guilty of this though, thankfully.

And speaking of custom characters, please let us modify facial features instead of just giving us 8 default faces of which 3 are decent and the rest are varying degrees of ugly. That guy that posted the Eve Online custom character video had it right. And again, please give us some ASIAN eyes. Not all of us hate the way you look as much as you hate yourselves, Japanese people. Srsly.

Those are my ideas.

My main issue with this game is the character creation. I am a casual player, so i don't really know what game mechanics need improving. To me, they seem fine although I did like SC3's mechanics a bit better. As I was saying before I went off track... The character creation in SC3 was on the right track. It had tons of items for you to combine and make your own character. It had plenty of different faces that add some character into your... character. It obviously coul have been improved with the coloring among other things. Now SC4 seems to be an upgrade yet a downgrade at the same time. Sure they added a better coloring system which was great and they added the muscularity/physiqe system which was also great in my eyes, but they combined so many of the items and took so many out that you really have very few choices of making your own unique charater. I would like to see all the items from SC3 and some additions. I'm not saying SC4 didn't have good items, because there were a few items that really had me awestruck. If they could add all of the SC3 and 4 items with some additions I would be happy. Then theres the fighting styles. 3 Had a whole variety of different fighting styles which i really liked. They wern't the most well thought out of styles but they were good enough. Aside from that they also added again character to your created character. I am personaly tired of having to give every character I make a fighting style of the main character... It just makes me feel like I made a ripoff of that character. They should bring back some of these fighting styles and perhaps include a brawler. We all know at least adding one Brawler into the series would be awsome.

The next big thing I want fixed is the story. Like I said I am a casual gamer so I don't try to be the best at the game. All I really want is some depth in the story. I play most games based on their story. It could have horrible game mechanics but have a great story and I will play it. That being said the story mode for SC4 was terrible. One scrolling text intro and then a few fights then the same cutscene for everyone and then a 2 minute at best ending cutscene dosnt cut it for me. While SC3 had more text than cutscene it made me feel like i was involved in the story especialy since you could make desicions on which path they take. It all lead to the same ending but still it was fun to see how the story would unfold. They also need to make the custom chatarter story a bit more in depth. I know it impossible for Namco to predict all our charater backgrounds but just make a few different stories such as making one for evil characters one for good and another for neutral. Those are my ideas and they were probly said before but who cares =P

One thing that would make the create-a-character system feel more complete to me would be the ability to export photos and screenshots of various parts of the game to an external storage device. I know this is probably impossible due to copyright and licensing issues (and quite a few other problems would result)... but I think it would be awesome to take pictures of my custom outfits / characters in various poses, or maybe even during a battle, and be able to transfer it as a JPEG to my computer somehow.

Just had to put that out there. I feel like our creative endeavors are trapped forever inside the game, lol.

--Edit--

I think you can probably do that if you just plug your ps3 video cable into your computer, right? IDK, I am not good with computer, but it makes sense.

It gets done somehow, as there are tons of user-made screenshots of SC4 online.
Yeah, but the quality is bad. I'm talking about adding something, a special tool or mode, that would let you take high-res still poses or action shots of your characters without lifebars or other data that are normally in the way. Extra camera angle options would be a plus, too.

First of all I apologize if there is already a thread for this, but as I am very limited on time I just created a new one. And if I misspell anything, as I've said I'm short on time, but I'll make sure I'm clear.

First: Expand the Stun theme
By expand I mean add stun qualities to more (if not most) of the moves for each character, and let them chain off of each other. I.e. Many Mitsurgi combos such as :6::6::A: to :3::A:. To balance this out a bit and have it be more exciting to watch, which I think is very important, have each successful hit speed up while lowering the damage dealt (encouraging devastating moves to finish the combo). This should appeal to casual gamers mechanically and non gamers visually while testing the player's timing on a combo. To keep the spirit/individuality of the game, have certain moves only stun while in a combo. I.e. Mitsurgi's :4::K:, while used on a stunned opponent, it will keep the opponent stunned while pushing them a little further away (To avoid infinite loops) and on a non-stunned opponent it would work as it has always has before. To keep this from being to too cheap (stun, stun. stun, stun, Ringout) make it so stuns don't ring out (not mid combo anyway).

Second: Add an actual guard meter
Not the one that is in place currently, but one that can be seen winding down, with multiple bars in between (like the super bar from SF4 or Alpha), there are so many things you can do with that (I'll get to that in a minute). I think we would see more actual finishes or attempts if the player can actually see the guard meter, this would build up tension/anticipation for a crowd watching if they can see how close the person they are rooting for is to dying/winning.

Third: Bring back guard breaks from 2, and if possible keep the ones from 4
Easily enough, just have guard break moves from 4 delay into guard breaks from 2. To keep it balanced only the first one (non-delay) would destroy the guard meter, while the other actually breaks guard and opens them for a combo (hit or miss, either way). And have the one's from 2 actually take up your guard meter every time you attempt it adding a bit more of a "big risk, big reward" quality to the game (I'm not saying there isn't, I just feel this would add more).

Four: Get rid of "Just" moves
I feel like this actually turns casual players away because it's so demanding of some characters (I'm looking at you Setsuka) to unlock their full potential (Second move only executed if the first move is a "Just").

Five: Anthology or Tag
Think SC2 Raphael vs SC4 (pre-patch) Amy, similar to SF Anthology

Six: Remove the short moment after winning a match
The six seconds the winner has to mutilate the body of their downed opponent before the next match begins it just promoting bad sportsmanship online.

Seven: Other Franchise Characters as downloaded content
Having the other console specific character be available for download was a bit of a let down for me because we all saw it coming. I was hoping the people of Namco signed a longer contract with Lucasarts. I was hoping to see a new Star Wars character every quarter on one console or the other and have an end of the year bundle pack filled with characters from the other console. This way Soul Caliber would continue to get more characters, while Star Wars has another platform to advertise characters for their upcoming games. And if need be, omit the storyline for these extra characters because if it feels forced (no pun intended) I'd rather not see one at all. Or even have their costumes to available to download for custom creation.

Of course, this idea doesn't have to only be applied to Lucasarts...

I.e. Just to name a few:
  • Marvel/Wolverine (Claws) vs Taki or Voldo, Capt.America (Shield, no stranger to time travel...or crossovers) vs anybody
  • Ubisoft/Assassin's Creed (I'm sure we've all seen enough Altair/Ezio custom creations to assume this would be popular)
  • Monolith/Xenosaga-Shion(Shield Arm)/Ziggy(Robot)/Kos-Mos(Robot, plus seen her before, so not out of the question) vs. Yoshi(Part-Robot) or Momo(Little hammer) vs Astaroth(Large Custom Hammer)
  • Capcom/Zero(Robot with a bunch of weapons that come out of nowhere, that should be set to stances to balance him) vs Necrid (wannabe Zero lol j/k) or Megaman (Gun Arm) vs Algol(Two Gun Arms)
Seven: I know this sounds crazy, but I'd like to see them create a whole new storyline with new characters. Keep the move-sets and gameplay, but move forward with different characters and have their endings tell what happened to the characters we currently have and then have our characters be alternate (and just as customizable) "outfits" like Eddy was for Christina in Tekken at one point (As to not piss off veteran players). I'd love to see Yun-sung, Talim, Amy, Cassandra, and Bangoo be the hardened veterans in the quest for the swords.

Also, I know Amy is a vampire, but if she showed up as an adult version of herself, it would intrigue me to find out how or why. And if Raphael is missing, I'd be more inclined to play her storyline to see what happened. I think this would definitely tick a lot of veteran players off no matter how it would be executed, but the important thing is that it's a chance to draw in new players.

Species/Style Select

I main Lizardman and Taki. I am nuts about reptiles. I own a Green Anole and a Northern Blue Tongue Skink. I hate the fact that I have to play with my secondary fighting style (Which also happens to not be nearly complex as half the other characters in this series) just to play as the only reptile character. It doesn't matter to me if it makes no sense, just make a special game mode or something, where I can create custom characters with a unique species. It could be a Lizardman, Wolfman, Kangaroo, or any other carefully selected choices.

Either that or allow me to pick Lizardman, WITH THE FULL ARMOR SELECTION OPTIONS (the selection is pitiful in SCIV), and allow me to pick the weapon style. Imagine how cool it would be to see a lizard ninja. As he does all of Taki's flips, rolls, and warps, his tail would fly and twirl accordingly, and not to mention he's pretty damn big! The possibilities would be endless. Just take a moment to picture Lizardman with all of the other weapon styles. Flying, warping, and cartwheeling as Taki or Yoshimitsu, being a badass gravity defier with twin swords and a gun as Cervantes, beating the crap out of Bruce Lee with Maxi's kicks and jumps....the list goes on. Anyway, my point is this: Let players choose a default character and change their weapon style to another. Maybe their size could change to suit hitboxes so nothing could be abusable, like an Astaroth-Amy hybrid. I don't care if my lizardman would be turned into a midgit to use Talim or Amy, as long as I would be able to do it I would be happy. And, it would make him REALLY big as Astaroth.

Wave mode: Rapid-fire style fighting to be played in groups of 3 or more. Two players start the match with one round and one bar of health each, with no time limit. After one player wins, the next player spawns across the stage and continues the fight. There could be an option that could be disabled or modified to change how much health the victor recovers. Once the next winner is chosen, the cycle repeats until the host decides to end the game or until someone scores enough wins. If someone were to make a room with 5 spots and 3 were taken, two people might come in and be placed in the proper spot of the cycle once they select their character. Losers would have a short window to change their character for the next time they jump in.

I mainly want this so that, when playing people far less skilled than me, I don't have to spend more time in menus than I do playing. It would also be a riot for clan practices or get-togethers.

Team Battle: I'm sure this has been mentioned hundreds of times already, so i won't waste the reader's time elaborating yet again. Make it happen, please!

Saving Replays: There are so many reasons to want this. Assuming this would be implemented with youtube capabilities like Black Ops' theater mode:

Youtube documentaries about character combos, tricks, and maneuvers, could be linked on many websites for references,

Saving great matches to watch or share later,

Spreading the word about players that play in a negative way on purpose,

Doing an insane combo or tech-trap by accident and saving the film to learn it, so you can utilize it again whenever you want,

Recording funny and random glitches to show your friends, like a character ringing out then popping back to stage,

Endless possibilities. It would skyrocket the game's replay value.

Clan Symbol: Allow players to create an icon that will show by their name to signify that they belong to a clan. This will be appreciated for several reasons, assuming the creator of the emblem/icon would have to share or give the emblem to someone before they could use it:

It will help spread knowledge about your clan, and in turn help with recruiting.
People could play against your clanmates, and if the match is good it increases your clan's overall reputation.
If people keep playing people that play cheaply with the same icon, they will know to avoid that icon in future.
Clans can more easily find eachother and set up scrimmages.

A more in-depth story mode: When you takea look at it, the story modes for SCIV were pathetic. 5 missions each, almost all being exactly the same?

Custom Character options:

Age/Pitch/Mood voice options

In SCIV, the only options you have for custom character voices are 6 different voices with the option to change the pitch, which also screws with the voice speed. In SCV, this could be vastly improved and make custom character creation even more absorbing.

All of the options I would like to see would be:

Instead of a voice set with preset lines, let the player choose a Base Voice, then allow them to pick from a number of lines for each scenario, like

What does the voice say when:

The character wins with Perfect?

The time runs out and the character loses?

The character scores a Critical Finish? (If it makes a return in SCV)?

And so on. This way they could truly create their custom character's personality instead of fitting into a stale mold.

Age: Let the player toggle the Base Voice's age. If they want the character to be old, let them turn up the age meter to get the old man/woman sound. The same goes for younger customs, like maybe teenagers.

Pitch and Hoarse: Let the player change the pitch just like in SCIV, BUT do not make it alter the voice's speed. Make that a seperate option. Hoarseness of the character's voice could be changed to make the character even more unique, especially during laughter.

Mood: Let the player set their character's general personality, such as angry, lighthearted, or creepy. Set the age, pitch, and mood properly to come up with a creepy, cackling old man or a suave, level-headed ladies' man.

More faces: In SCIV, I almost always use Male Face 13 because it's only one of 3 that I don't think is completely ugly. The female characters in particular are getting jipped horribly with only 7 faces and over half of them witch-faces.

That's everything I can think of for now. I REALLY would like to use Lizardman with every style!
