Why do we dislike certain characters? (Gameplay only)

Scrubbiness is allowed here, without restraint. What isn't allowed is ridicule for being scrubby.
My bad! Alright, why did these crazy Japanese people decide that shorter reach should automatically equal more damage? And that really fast characters with stubby little short range weapons should therefore not only attack faster but do more damage with each hit, as well stun and knock down their opponents just as easily (if not far more easily) than characters swinging heavier weapons? Is range in and of itself really such a huge advantage that those characters' attacks should be far less powerful in addition to being slower? The game would be a lot more interesting if playing a faster character meant really having to rely on finesse, and being able to frame trap and interrupt your opponent came at the price of not getting as many knock downs and not being able to do tons of damage in just a few seconds. It would also hurt my brain a bit less if the effect of the hit had anything to do with how powerful the attack looks and how much of a windup goes into it. Seriously, why would any of Viola's non-orb attacks knock someone down? Why do moves like her little knee bump do any damage at all?

Of course, Mitsurugi's the big exception to all this. He hits very hard, very fast, AND with good range. He was actually interesting in SE/B when he was high speed but fairly low damage with mediocre range (unless he was using Kojiro's sword, of course...)

(How's that for scrubbiness?)

Devil Jin: My fingers hurt from holding the block button. Sir, could you please stop throwing out i1 punches so I can, you know, move? I'd appreciate it.

Viola: Need to go to the bathroom in the middle of a match? No problem, I just need to get caught in one of her combos. I have enough time for sure!

Mitsurugi: He's just boring to play as and to fight against. Too solid, his gameplan consists of the same moves over and over. He's at the same time very powerful and easy to use, though I don't struggle too much with him.

Voldo: Probably my worst mu, alongside Devil Jin. Feels like if I blink for a sec I'm on a mixup which leads to another mixup which leads to another. It normally doesn't take long until I'm dead. Shoutouts to my guessing skills!

Just had to get these scrubby complaints out of me :p

Voldo: A character representing the epitome of Human deadliness, the utter apex of athletic and martial talent, balanced by the handicap of forgetting how to walk.

This is a weapons fighter. I play to fight humanoids against each other - things with two legs, a head, and squeamishness for losing any of the three. Yoda, Astaroth, and stupid cat-suit things with insect voices are more tolerable than this freak. I'd have to play him myself but it's actually revolting to actuate his controls.

Character specifics, the only one I have to complain gameplay wise is Raphael not receiving enough love, but I feel like i'm beating a dead horse here.

I am with you on this and everything else you said. Although I sometimes feel the same way you do, I still surmise that the only way to attract more Raph lovers is to buff him and return some of his SC2 flavor. Obviously, not that many people are willing to be very meticulous as we are in practicing him, posting about him, convincing others he is not crap, and supporting him.

Ever since PS created a "downhill" transition into a simplified movelist and vampire theme for poor Raph, fans slowly turned their backs on Raph. Hopefully namco does something to wake up some SC2 Raph fans.

This statement makes me want to hug you (>; - ;)>
*hugs* lolol i know the feels X(

Edit:
Yoshimitsu: I fucking hate his ass...mainly cus of his damn move-list. I hate the fact that he has alot of stupid unblockables and his urgh his stupid move-list is like a mile long yet poor watered down characters like Ivy and Aeon have pretty horrid move-lists >:(

Yes the salt is strong with me >:D No I do not care if that's not the purpose of this thread.

Xiba: Reach is too long, he's annoying, and I hated Kilik in past installments.
Kilik: Boring character with a bitchy weapon in past installments, does not make a good "Akuma" substitute.
Astaroth: Nothing gameplay-wise, but he's a pointless character who has no real influence on the plot, especially now that this Astaroth is a new one, and a mindless puppet to boot.
Aeon: Again, pointless character who has no real relevance, only this time his gameplay just gets more annoying with each installment, he's like the Blanka of the game now.
Natsu: Her air throw does too much damage, and it's really boring seeing every single combo end with it.
Pyrrha: My hate for this moeblob bitch is so great that listing every reason would take about a year or two. Just know that the only character I hate more than her is Noel Vermillion, and listing every reason I hate her would last until the end of the world.

Mitsurugi - 4B nothing pisses me off more thenwhen he does that HUGE back step causing me to wiff, makes me want to rip his fucking legs off, or at least cripple them.

EDIT: Not naming names- you guys pretty much have said it better than I could.

For me, how I hate a character or styleset comes down to ease of use and damage output combined.

More specifically, I dislike a style set that only uses like two or three moves that has super priority and hits like a truck to completely shut out their opposition. That also applies for fighting video games in general.

However I will say that even if a scrub were to play the most OP character in the game, he would most likely end up dead against a pro with a not-so-highly-regarded character, so theres that haha.

Also, props to ppl sticking with low-tear characters. I don't think any less of people sticking with "unknown" characters. I don't even disrespect em xD

2)A-Pat. Similar to Omega, I feel like his entire moveset is revolved around twister. Twister is his go-to punisher, go-to combo filler, JF version hits OTG, it TC's and TJ's, etc. Same thing with Omega, he only needs a fraction of his moveset. I can only see this as a not-very-well-thought-out design.

I dislike aPats moves thingy mainly because of how he's represented in Quick Battle. Namely as a Botspammer esp. in Advanced Mode.. However, when I see him played online- I think he's ok and start thinking: i wouldn't mind getting into him. Same with Asta and a few other characters such as Mitsu and Pyrrha.. in Quick Battle..

Natsu. Fuck Natsu.

So fast. So much damage. So many tears. None of which is helped by the fact that roughly 1/3 of the people I go up against are playing her.

This is purely because I'm still working on the MU:

ZWEI: Kind of like how Viola is with her ball, EIN can be used to fuck you up more then you think. The most common thing I get is when the opponent summons EIN, so I block, but it delays and he hits low while EIN hits mid. Basically, you get combo'd and screwed, and I always have issues with ZWEI.

I fought JustinAkatsuki's Z.W.E.I once. Once. Never again, haha.

I also dislike fighting Voldo, because things that LOOK like they should hit him don't seem to at all. Maybe it's just me though? He's a cool character and his style is cool, it just creeps me out.

Old men shouldn't bend that way. Young men either.

What gripes me about alpha patroklus is that he's not exactly a guy designed with significant weaknesses (and no I do not count executing JFs as a weakness, simply because there isn't much of a penalty when you fail to do so)

Hits like a truck, uber safe, has good reach, and one of the fastest characters

I'm comfortable if project soul intentionally designed him to benefit tremendously from JFs, so naturally I am not happy that his non-JF moves are still so exceptional.

I would have found it acceptable if alpha patroklus had:

1. his regular moves toned down. Alpha pat should feel weaker if you don't try to connect the JFs relative to the rest of the cast (like a 4:6 ratio at worse). I get it that you dont want people to feel "lacking" if they don't get the JFs though.

2. Give him one of the highest chance to clean hit. The higher clean hit mechanic will be a "feel-good" for those players who dropped a JF.

3. JF moves can stay as powerful, in safety, guard break and damage (not speed or ability to hit grounded randomly). I'm not a fan of JF-only combos, but it does make for some more epic moments in more serious matches. Combos that require JFs to link should drive up the risk/reward for alpha pat who is generally one of the safer characters.

4. To counter balance this, I'd have preferred that Alpha pat's JF's suffer significantly if JG'd just so the opponent is given a chance to "out-execute" alpha patroklus. I'm not a fan of JG in general but it would be neat if project soul specifically designed a character to be weak against jG (like Raph is to step).

5. If he gets a nerf on his regular moves, then his guard crush game should be improved to compensate.

6. One last point: his overall stepping and dashing moment should be lower than average if his regular moves are not heavily nerfed. Gotta explore balance as a whole when dealing with the main protagonist, if project soul refuses to touch damage, speed and safety (the core "frame" numbers)

To summarize: Within the system mechanics of SC5, alpha pat should have better clean hit chances, better guard crush game to balance out an overall nerfing of his regular moves (and/or movement) and increased vulnerability to jG.

Raph; B/c i HATE having to hold buttons and execute others, i'd rather just have a timed input. I have tried to play him.. but i just CANT. His prep is too uncomfortable for my play style.

Viola; B/c i hate super long juggles and i haven't REALLY taken the time to get to know her moveset..

Hilde; Even though i hate hold inputs, i honestly don't mind hers.. unless i have to hold TWO buttons.. I play on pad, so yeah. And i haven't remapped my pad since the first time i did it to mirror my sc4 mapping.

Zwei; same reasons as Raph and Hilde.. I honestly can't process hold inputs.

I hate all the characters because everyone plays them better and FASTER than me (seriously, why do I get molested as Viola when fighting Astaroths?) . :( I love all the characters on the rare occasion I play with someone on my low level. x3

But, real talk? I hate Raph - can't use him effectively. I hate Aeon, despite him oozing sex appeal, with his tiny set of easily executed moves. I hate Mitsurugi because anybody can win as him.

Maxi. It could be your 1st time playing but I'm sure you could easily pull off a ten hit combo with him. I don't respect anyone who would use such a character to boost their stats.

Xiba. Who the hell created you? Killik was boarder line annoying but you are taking the piss nos. Everything about you is a waste of life. From your obnoxious, ape-like personality to that stupid spam jab moves along with his low sweep hits. Why do you even exist?

And it's not that I can't beat you guys. I easily can. But when you straight up spamming, you know that I'm going to go Pyrra Omega on your ass, knock you to the ground, spam stab you, taunt and repeat that cycle. If I come across any of y'all using the characters above, let this be a warning.
