Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Thanks boys. I think I don't really need to add to this.

I'll be sad about Raph if he wasn't in this one though.
Seems really strange to leave Raph out, as he was even in SC5. I would like to see him in this game.
Well if in the end I get Raph as a DLC... I'd be pissed, but as long as I can play him...
As for all this Raphael stuff, his gimmick is that he is a cool fencer with a bunch of stances, not all this tacked on vampire crap.He isn't "funny" or weird, he's an essential.
And what was this about Raphael? Raphael is so unique, he deserves to be in the game!
nooo you cant have SC game without Raphael ! He is not my main or anything but I still want him in the game
I'll be very disappointed if there's no Raphael. He's been in every SC game since SC2, he was even in SC5 ..
Raphael gone seems so strange
... but if there's no rapier style in the game, that's kind of a deal-breaker.
No Raphael? Amy I can understand but... no Raph? And is this Salia thing really possible? When the hell will they learn that we don't want just any old fucking character with a particular fighting style/weapon, we want THE CHARACTER WHO WIELDS IT!? Didn't our reaction to SCV's roster teach them that?
I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt. But no Raph is INSANE....
I can't imagine this game without Raphael.
if Raphael won't be included, it will always leave a bad taste in my mouth and I would never forgive Project Soul for that. ...
As for Salia replacing Raphael, that would be an insult to both Raphael and their fanbase.

When Project Soul's staff comes around to look into the community's wishes it should be pretty clear what the fans want.

I'd hope so but according to Verg, the roster is finalized at this point :(

Hey my friend Vergeben! You said that the roster is finalized and the DLC characters are decided on! You know the rest of the character roster? And DLC's? And what was this about Raphael? Raphael is so unique, he deserves to be in the game! And one more thing, any hints about Setsuka?
I'm working on it.

:sc2vol3: so with the trailer showing cervantes..lizardman and astaroth...and now with vergeban leaking rapheal fans should be sweating....i dont know where im going with this? Voldos in the game right?:sc1vol1:
Voldo is in.

never change, GameFAQs
lmao

The roster would've been finalized well before they started production or even showing the game off to the masses.
That's not always how things work. Games have completely cut characters before during the development cycle after a game is already announced, but the character never revealed. But it comes out later that someone was cut in interviews and things.

I don't want to dress up Geralt, I want to make my own character and not have them waste resources to design and balance a whole fighting style that's completely unusable for custom options. I'd rather entirely new characters or more older characters returning than what is essentially what I consider half a character. This means no Al Gols either as he's even worse than a guest character as he doesn't even have the ability to attract fan boy casuals.

Why would a guest character be a waste? Because Bamco is catering to fans that aren't just *you*? Holy fuck, get over yourself, man. There's going to be content for everyone.

I can't believe we're talking about the possibility of Raphael not making the cut, especially after he was present in both SCV and Lost Swords. Hell, he was a major character in SCII's storymode. There is literally no reason to exclude and replace him with another character at all. You would think Project Soul learned from that after SCV. This is literally the reason why Leixia, Pyhrra, Xiba, aPat, and Natsu (Yun Seong to a lesser extent) were the most hated characters in the series: they were designed to be clones.

This is just my opinion, but Groh's father is starting to seem like a blight on the roster. From what I've been seeing, there is has been little interest as to who he is and what weapon he will use. And not to get all sjw-ish, but at this point, the roster could use a few more female characters. That was one of the criticisms of SCV's roster and we don't need it here. SCIV had the best gender balence imo. I actually like the idea of Salia as a new character over Groh's father, but not as a replacement, and especially not for Raph.

I’m worried about the potential three Greeks. Just feels a bit bleh. Lizzy would be acceptable if the s&s one was a generic with Sophie’s/Cassie’s style and not dual axe-wielding Aeon.

Edgemaster would also be a bad choice if Inferno is playable.

No Algol or Dampierre. Please!

Salia could be the awaited long sword user (although Mitsurugi could likely get Tyrfing back for customs) but may have elements of the CaS/Chester dagger.

Ok so people come to the game cause they like Geralt, then they find cool features like CaS and love the Geralt fighting style, but can't make their own character using that same style, they don't care that much for the other styles and get frustrated.

The biggest problem with CaS is that if you love it, which many do, and many casuals will if they come to the game is that, some styles are locked out to you. If you main a non CaS character you are screwed out of really enjoying the full depth of CaS as you'll never be able to use your favored style in CaS and if you are mostly in the game for CaS the non CaS styles are basically unaccessable as the main draw is creating your own characters meaning you are completely locked out of the ability to play some styles in the way that you enjoy.

The problem with guest characters and character's like Geralt is they are content for only a select few people, whereas any character that can be used in CaS is content EVERYONE can enjoy regardless. If they don't like or care about CaS they still have the character, if CaS is the main draw they still have their style. Guest character's and character's like Al Gol are only useful to those who have zero concern about CaS or happen to only care about playing some specific guest character.

In my opinion the non CaSable aspects of Guest characters is a mistake, because using a style to draw players in, and then locking them out of using that same style in another aspect of the game they might come to like is like a really sick bait and switch. Hey come play Geralt, oh you like his style and think CaS is cool? You want to make your own Witcher as Geralt is not the only one? Well too bad!

Same with those damn Jedi's that existed but no one could make their own Jedi/Sith. Complete BS, waste of resources, and total unfair tease. Anyone drawn in by star wars characters are surely gonna be put off by having the ability to create unique characters allowing them to create anything but the sith/jedi that drew them in, in the first place.

In Witcher cannon there's more Witchers than just Geralt, and if you're gonna take the time to create his style and bring him in to draw people in, let them enjoy the CaS system to create their own Witchers along with everyone else enjoying CaS. In fact you might even draw in people you might not expect this way as I personally know people put off by being forced to play a male character only in the Witcher universe. Give them a chance to make the female Witcher they've always dreamed of.

The Soul Calibur team and the Witcher team are so close and have more than enough overlap they should easily be able to work out something to make this happen.

Okay we get it, you don't like you can't play dress up with some characters. Stop now. You've said your piece. Leave it at that.

You know. I never realized I couldn't make a create a soul Jedi. For some reason I never wanted to.

Oh yeah. It's because I dressed up Taking 35 different ways. Had a gay bald male Setsuka, a bunch of other guys and 5 Amy's for my best friend.

How did Raphael score on the character popularity polls?

Speaking of information, I got some more. People have still been wondering about it, but yes Maxi is gay, but there will be VERY vague implications to it. Significantly more vague than Kung Jin in MKX. Thank the localization team for helping with that. It was noted to pay attention to how he acts in story mode around a handful of male characters and you'll notice the subtlety at work.
Follow up question: will he be gayer in Japanese?

Also I can't wait to read into every single one of his interactions with Kilik

And Groh and Kilik definitely have sexual tension right?? Maxi is gonna need to fight for his man lmao

Maxi got in by a variety of factors (storyline relevance, gameplay viability, Li Long being a lot lower on the list than he is), so I’m not that surprised that he’s in the roster. Similarly, Xianghua isn’t even in the top 10, but like hell is the first canonical wielder of Soul Calibur (barring Algol) not going to be included in the reboot of her own debut game.
