Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

So I have two questions. If Amy is getting her magic wand from SC4 as a weapon option, will it have the actual sound effects or will it just make blunt weapon noises? My second question is will Okubo release the rest of the hit effects from SC5 like the cute pack and the comic packs.

No real way to know until it comes out, since we don't have any joke weapons in the game right now officially. I still think it's a missed opportunity to bring back another weapon like Tuck, Rapier, or even Reiterpallasch as a heck of a throwback. It just seems weird to suddenly have a joke weapon.

We got the sphere extra equipment as a random aside in the last parts pack, so it's not impossible that the hit effects might be in one of them too.

Frayhua always knows how to cheer people up. 😊

We could all vote with our dollars, encourage others to do so and make the best possible effort at a case for a season 3. While I agree Hilde's almost certainly not planned for season 2, I've little doubt that if a season three looked profitable, she'd be at the top of the list of likely characters. Of course a third season is really the longest of long shots, but the point I'd choose to emphasize (from one person who really wants to see Hilde return to any others) is that getting surly/dismissive/hostile/agitory against season two for not choosing the characters you would have will only decrease the chances of getting the characters you would have liked. The best course of action, unlikely as the odds may be, is to be a booster for SCVI and its DLC regardless, and hope sales are sufficient enough to carry more content.

I mean, it's not completely outside the realm of possibility: Namco is clearly pursuing the serialized content purchase model with fervour now (for obvious reasons). I mean, to have the entire SE-SCIV main roster (plus two or three guests) inside of one game? That would be a thing of beauty. Forums like this one allow us to act as mini-scale influencers and if we put out a consistently positive advocatory vibe on the game, we could maybe move the needle just a tiny bit. I know it's a little difficult to maintain that level of enthusiasm with a mixed bag for a base game and additional content released slowly over the course of the following year, but it's certainly better than giving in to the impulse to behave like pissy entitled consumers just because the product does completely conform to exactly what we wanted, which would only be shooting ourselves in the foot (albeit through Namco's).

So a game is objectively bad because of no boob physics and less female skin. Wow. You learn something new every day.

Yup, my sentiments exactly. I almost didn't click on that video because I suspected exactly what was going to be behind it (even though the title in the embedded format here was too short to give clear indication) and I didn't want to give a view to some whinging crybaby tearing down a game because it robbed him of his "entitlement" to jiggling breasts. And indeed, I found exactly what I expected there. The problem is, guys like that are a highly influential part of the consumer base for games, for fighter games in particular and for DoA especially.

And frankly, this is largely a situation of Team Ninja's own making. Nobody put a gun to their head to make them bake jiggle physics, oggling camera angles, and DLC packs filled with sexy maid outfits into their products for twenty years straight (to say nothing of the X-treme games which were expressly and unapologetically 100% fan service). If they are now facing a backlash from the fans they reeled in with that content, it's not exactly a surprise. Look what happens with franchises like Battlefield; EA never expressly courted the players most likely to scream "SJW" with foam hanging from their mouth, and yet they found their bottom line on the last game hit substantially just for having some anachronistic female characters in the mix. It was always a given that a franchise like DoA that specifically predicated its sales into tapping into such a demographic was going to face some growing pains in trying to evolve the brand, especially in the current climate.

All of that said, I'm encouraged that Team Ninja is making the effort. DoA has long been my third favourite 3D fighter franchise (just after Soul Calibur and Virtua Fighter and just before Tekken), and while the occasionally (well, more than occasional I suppose) over-the-top and immature fixation on parts of the female anatomy was (for me anyway) a non-issue (because the gameplay was tight and that's really what drives my interest, no matter how ludicrous or silly the superficial design elements are) its nice to see them decide to focus on the nuts and bolts of the gameplay for the first time in a long time, as opposed to turning half their roster into lingerie models for unending DLC packs so fanboys could dress up their creepy digital sex dolls. Which model had been damaging the game's base design for a decade and (for those who do not know) absolutely ruined DOA5 in particular on certain platforms, because of the technical bugs that it introduced. The problem right now is that, if its a solid game as a result, I'm keen to get it (even though I swore after wasting money on DOA5U and being completely locked out of it through TN's own ineptitudes in how they ran their software on certain platforms, I would never buy one of their product's again). But no one I know has bought DoA6 yet and online it is hard to cut through the noise about the style changes to understand how tight the mechanics on the underlying product are.

I personally hope all of you get your mains eventually if the game continues to sell well enough to get more seasons. I don't want to be too optimistic or get anyones hopes up but I'd be almost certain that we'll see Setsuka back in Season 2.

Meanwhile I'm just over here like... Amy when? It's so hard to play the game and enjoy it now that I know I COULD be playing as her but I can't yet, and don't even have a date to look forward to :(

The only 2 people missing from the top 15 on the popularity poll are Yun-Seong and Cassandra. Which they both happen to be my mains is Okubo trolling me? And by the way can we get a non feminine one handed sword style please my cas creations are itching for it.

Every time I hear dudes whining and groaning about "SJWs" I want to kick their teeth out.
They should probably be more pissed at the cost of the Season Pass than being unable to stare at jiggle physics tbh. Why would anyone want to spend nearly $100 for something that the consumer doesn’t know exactly what it will contain? Fuck that.

The season pass is $40? Nevermind, I looked into it myself. $93 for a season pass that includes sixty some outfits and just two characters? Asinine, but just par for the course with DOA; they know that a certain portion of their fanbase will pay for those fan service outfits, just as they always have (and btw, what was the manchild in that video losing his shit over exactly? According to the reviews I've watched thus far, every female character still has a skimpy outfit for their default alternate, and just from watching the reviews it is clear that the presentation still maintains the same basic level of titillation as ever--and though I don't see why any self-respecting person should predicate their purchases on such a thing, the boobs do, for the record, still jiggle.)

Anyway, ridiculously priced DLC or no, at least this time the model hasn't ruined the game. I bought DOA5 Ultimate on the 360 for full price about a year and a half before it released and not long before they changed the game to a free-to-play model. Now it would have been a slap in the face to pay that money for a game just before they made the same exact content free to others, but I could have gotten over that for a game that was genuinely fun regardless.

In order to accommodate selling the hundreds upon hundreds of alternate "sexy" costumes for the female characters, they required that every player have the DLC downloaded even if not purchased. If you loaded your copy, not only could you not get online, but you couldn't even move past the load screen to play single player content unless you had the full game. They could have easily written the software so that you didn't need this content on your end if you didn't want to purchase it, but either they had sloppy devs or they wanted every play who bought the content to be confident their opponent would always see that exact costume, for...reasons? I guess?

Just one problem with all of this: the vital DLC files were hidden in the same marketplace index that included the hundreds upon hundreds of DLC entries to sell you those outfits. And the way that XBOX had its marketplace menus set up for the 360, there was no way to search through them, and you had scroll through each of those hundreds of items page by page. They just didn't have any other games prior to that which had nearly so many DLC items, each listed as its own sale and then also included in multiple packs, for hundreds and hundreds of individual DLC items. And no one at Microsoft seemed to ever take notice of the fact that Team Ninja was breaking their content distribution system by uploading these hundreds of individual items, even though there was a point late in that generation's cycle where roughly 5% of all DLC downloads available on the platform were DOA5 outfits. I spent six hours one day tediously moving through slow loading items trying to find the content that I needed to be able to play the game I HAD PAID FULL PRICE for, now that it was free-to-play and required this DLC content to be loaded on my hard drive, for no good reason.

All of this was complicated by the fact that the essential content was not reachable from the menu of the game itself and in the Microsoft marketplace it was not appropriately labelled in title field nor designated as such in the product description. Anyway, either there was a bug for some of us who bought the game as a digital download before it went free or I just never found all of the vital content, because I was never able to get beyond the load screen and play that game again. All because they wanted to sell more digital lingerie and latex to those bunch of souls sad enough to pay some portion of the $900 you would have needed to get every DOA outfit. Extremely frustrating. It basically converted me from a diehard fan of the franchise to someone who couldn't imagine buying another DOA game again.

All of which is to say, at least this time everything is packaged in a single season pass? And to the extent they market the items separately, they are now selling them on platforms where they can be easily organized and searched through, while the coding should be capable of keeping you from being locked out of a game you bought (and will attract a lot more attention these days if something so unacceptable were to happen, even to a few players. Still, having experienced that much aggravation for their absurd manchild-facing peripheral sales, I'm going need real assurances this game is stable, bug-free, a solid experience and worth the price before I forgive and give them another dime of my money.

There is actually a lot to say about sjw's but people tend to slide into extremes so they become nuts in their own way

From:

Here’s everything that comes in the pricey bundle:
  • Happy Wedding Costumes Vol.1
  • Happy Wedding Costumes Vol. 2
  • Costume Pack Vol.1
  • Costume Pack Vol. 2
  • Additional Character Mai Shiranui
  • Mai Shiranui Debut Costumes
  • Additional New Character
  • Additional New Character Debut Costumes
That might not seem like a lot, but it works out to about $1 a costume and $15 for each additional character, including their debut outfits. Plus there’s the peace of mind from knowing that you’re completely covered for Dead or Alive 6 DLC for three months.
Note:
- Downloadable content not included in the list above may be released during the same period, but it will not be covered by this Season Pass 1.
Almost completely covered.
EL OH EL
Who else scrolls down long posts to the bottom to check the amount of likes to see if its worth reading?
I find reading the post a better indicator. =P

Yeah. Regarding DOA6's season pass (I agree, it's WAY overpriced, blame the KT execs for that instead of Team Ninja)...you don't have to spend $93. You can actually buy the costumes individually for a MUCH cheaper cost instead buying the whole thing. On PS4/Xbox, you can just buy the DLC costumes just for the characters you like (in DOA5 the price was around $1.99 or $2.99 for a character if I remember correctly). On Steam, however, you pretty much have to buy the whole pack instead of just for specific characters unfortunately (that's on Steam's part due to their crazy policies). Also, stages are FREE (not including the Attack on Titan stage since it's a collab).

As much as I defended soul calibur season pass I can’t do it for DOA. I’ll wait for the free to play version and buy the characters I like.

yeah. that $93 DOA Season Pass is straight up ridiculous. no way am I paying for that.

I'll just buy the individual characters when they become available.
