Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Well guess I got ninja'd as I just did a zip file but here it is if anyone is interested.

Oh guys, this is such a treasure to me. I can spend hours dwelling on concept art and this baby contains some SC1 concepts which i had not been aware of. And the known ones are in HD even. Thanks a bunch!

Does anyone have similar sources for other SC concept art? I've harvested the soul archives already, but suspect that there are more treasures hidden in the artbooks.

I don't think there are many large artbooks for the series. The biggest ones I know of are the ones for SC1 and SC5.

The other ones I can think of are all rather minor:
  • SC2 has an artbook (I can't remember if it was a separate release or part of a preorder bonus or something). It does show a couple of unused costume designs for characters, but otherwise it's all CG renders or artwork you see in SC2 but in higher resolution.
  • US collector's edition of SC6 comes with an artbook. I don't have it myself, but I've heard it consists only of artwork you see in the game itself (hopefully at higher resolution at least).
  • There's a release of Broken Destiny which comes with a tiny artbook. This artbook feels kinda pointless as it's mostly CG, and the few illustrations in it are also shown in the SC5 artbook or SC6 gallery.
  • There's a collector's edition of SC4 which comes with a comic book where half of it is an artbook with character sketches. This one is surprisingly neat, but everything is rather tiny as it's printed onto a comic book-sized book.

Is it too early to talk tier lists cuus I just wanna know what peoples opinions are on where the characters stand.

What do y'all think of your mains? Should they be buffed or nerfed or are they fine as they are?

I think Amy is pretty good for the most part but I think her roses should get a buff by reducing the number from 4 to 3 and a QOL by showing us how many we've stacked cus I honestly forget.

I wish Sophitia's low GI didnt have a secondary hit and just GI'd normally.

It’s been almost a year since release so no, it’s not early at all to create tier lists.

Voldo I’d say is good for the most part. Edges between B to B+ in my books. But I do wish some of his existing moves got some fixes/improvements. BS 2A+B could use a startup buff and better utility for it’s mantis transitions. I’d like his 3A to have frame advantage on hit at the very least. His 3BB to have better startup (perhaps i19-20). BS 8WR A could use better tracking.

I don't see "shows Li Long transforming into Maxi" in that sequence of images. There's one image in there (near in the sequence to the final Maxi design, rather than at the opposite end) who just happens to have a wide-brimmed hat that vaguely, kinda-sorta looks like a hat Li Long wore in one of his multiple designs. I wouldn't say it says much empirically about how they viewed Li Long (or for that matter, how this entirely different development team views him today), other than what we have known all along: they chose to create a new nunchuku wielder character design for SCI, and in most games since, they haven't decided to spare room for both.

I mean, most of those images (including the one with the hat) identify the character originally as Li Long while the annotations seem to go over how this or that design detail was ultimately left out or modified into Maxi's design. And all of this is under Maxi's portion of the character designs section.

Nice try, but I ran out of shame long ago.

I would place Sophitia safely in the low B, high C rank. Good punishes and decent zoning but mediocre range and a lack of offensive options. Cassandra I would say is a low A rank based on her pressure game and gimmick, but she hasn't had much major tourney play.

I miss the pushback Pyrrha O had on her DNS. Is it me or does Sophitia lack any real pressure tools?

I think Talim is good for the most part, but I feel that she needs more low attacks, safer critical attack options and her WNC should avoid all verticals/not allowed to track her.

Usually I'd be against having automatic avoid against all types of attacks but now I really wish it did. There's too many instances where a vertical shouldn't even hit her when she does it but still does.

It’s not just you. I find myself having to risk getting punished to try and get decent damage sometimes. So many of her moves are unsafe/vulnerable to side stepping. Meanwhile Cassandra can string 5 moves and block before you can even try to hit her.

Also there’s the fact that Siegfried and Grøh have invincibility against verticals during their stance sidesteps while Talim doesn’t.
Voldo’s Mantis 22_88 roll says hi. And some verticals just have really weird tracking in them.
