Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Twitter isn't exactly showing my poll in a great light here...

Or maybe Twitter is more interested in a "boob breast" debate.

It would be cool if everyone talked their native language.
No it wouldn't, its stupid in Tekken and it would be stupid in SC too.

Oh, don't worry, very few people would care about this poll anyway, specially considering its from StrawPoll.

People have been criticizing boobplates for a pretty long time. It's not new just because you're only now hearing about it. And "Naked Jesus Azwel" is after his entire outfit has been destroyed, but okay lmao.

Most of us just find the boobplate aesthetically unappealing.
"Most of us". Whoa, nice myopia right there.

wtf "the entire community" bro there where like 3 or 4 people caring about that shit.
can we pls stop talking about this its getting to retarded lvls on stupidity
I'm joking when I say the entire community.

That said, it's been a stupidly large topic for some reason. The last 10 pages of this thread is good enough proof. And the SC6 Reddit. And Resetera. And SC6 Gamefaqs forum. One of the most-viewed Youtube videos about Hilde is also about this topic.

I'd love to see more babble about her gameplay as right now it's a big mystery how her charge mechanic has or hasn't changed. The game's director says the mechanic still works the same, but the trailer implies otherwise.

I mean we probably wont get the release date announcement tomorrow or after that, so you might as well let this boob arguement go on as long as you guys understand the concept of opinions and not run towards namecalling right away like whiny kids.

Anyways, i hope we get Hilde's SCIV costume!

Man if you guys have this much of a problem with Hilde, I’m gonna get the popcorn ready when it’s time for Setsuka’s reveal...

i was thinking the same

god pls let PS put this armor in tbh im not a hilde player but you got to give it to her this armor is one of her best outfits.

The last I’ll say on the topic of Hilde’s costume is that even with the gold tit armor I don’t think Hilde’s design in SCVI is bad at all, same goes for the golden armoured boobs. I don’t think it’s a bad armour piece either, just that imo it looks a bit off on Hilde (to which “you-know-who” is probably going to disagree with that statement) compared all the previous outfits we’ve seen her in before (which is basically what some people around here are trying to say). I do think the rest of the outfit however does compliment the warrior princess vibe quite well, with the robes, greaves, and tiara. It is probably my least favourite of her designs (my favourite being her SCIV 2P dress), but it’s still a decent look in it’s own right for the most part, at least to me.

I just disagree with Dante wanting to take away fanservice that’s signature to the series just because she personally doesn’t like it. I mean, she even cited Mi-na as though it were an objectively bad costume when it fits her character and is seen as her best by many.

I think she needs to accept fanservice will always be a thing, especially in SC, and stop complaining about it. It’s not going away, and I’m sure she’ll say “b-but SCV!”. That game sucked and is ancient history by this point. There’s a reason they ditched Daishi’s direction the moment they could. SCVI is NOT an “outlier” for its fanservice, it’s the norm for it.

I don’t want the SC girls removed again, nor do I want them to somehow get flat chests just to please the vocal minority who don’t like it. Okubo said this in regards to the female cast when asked: “We’re staying true to the female characters as they were intended to be.”

Of course, there’s the fact that it’s part of his “visually appealing” philosophy, and that he doesn’t care about a vocal minority who will only complain about it. Removing fanservice would only hurt the appeal, and no one would go “Great! They removed the sexiness, now I’m gonna buy the game!”. Dante still bought SCVI, sexiness and all, so...

Again, Okubo had to deal with interviews telling him to his face about the “problematic” designs, and articles shaming them. Guess what? SCVI turned out successful, compared to DOA6 taking in the “gaming journalist” criticism and flopping.

Tbh, I can’t believe we’re still fighting about this.

IMO, the Mi-na outfits ranked best to worst:

1) SoulCalibur III 2p
2) SoulCalibur 1p
3) SoulCalibur II 2p
4) SoulCalibur IV 1p
5) SoulBlade 1p
6) SoulCalibur II 1p
7) SoulCalibur II 3p
8) SoulCalibur 2p
9) SoulCalibur III 1p
10) SoulBlade 2p
11) SoulCalibur IV 2p
12) SoulCalibur VI
13) SoulBlade 3p

You'll notice I do rank those showing skin higher than others not showing skin a fair number of times, too. Her SoulCalibur VI outfit is just awkward, though it still comes across better than that tacky mess that was her 3p from SoulBlade. It might not have had underboob, but whoever decided that monstrosity was acceptable needs to go back to fashion school. You'll also note I ranked the underboob from Soulcalibur IV quite high at number four. It's not the underboob in and of itself that I don't like, but the way it's presented. As a rule, undersized bikinis just look ridiculous. The free-flowing tied loose top looked fine and natural, by comparison.

@Nyte: Just for the record, as I've said before and you've neglected to read or understand, I am simply stating my opinions. I present nothing as consensus or fact. That's your own reading into what I'm saying the way you want to take it since it opposes your own view, from my perspective. You seem duty-bound to take offense instead of even attempting to see it the way others see it. Not just in this, but anything debated anywhere when you're involved.
@Nyte: You're taking it to the other extreme, though. No one, not even myself, is asking for no boobs or literally head to toe covering. If you can't see the vast different design-wise between SoulCalibur IV and SoulCalibur VI when compared to the rest of the series, then I can't help you, but there is a marked difference, and it's not necessary to the success of the franchise, in my opinion of course, for them to go to such lengths. They didn't need it up through SoulCalibur III, and they don't need it now.
Perhaps you should just re-read these posts from Dante before even thinking like that. Plus it’s just her opinion that you can’t seem to just agree to disagree on and constantly put down her opinions on trivial issues any chance you get.

I'd really rather the developers don't worry themselves over making things sexy or conservative. Just make it match the character and look nice above all else, you can do that whilst being sexy or conservative.

I'm not going to be mad at sexy Siegfried/Taki or even the conservative take on them as long as they look good and fitting too.
Just don't see the big deal on lacking sex appeal or being too sexy. That being said, in certain cases there's a limit to both ends of it I'd say.

Its annoying when a character like Ivy looses it (due to complaints for something inferior) since well... Its pretty much largely associated with her, but its not to say she can't have alternate fitting looks too that happen to be more conservative whilst looking just as good.

@FluffyQuack How a bout a "My mind probably noticed Hilde's boobplate and vaguely classified it as silly, and was then prepared to never again take note of the feature in the crazy sea of wild Soulcalibur design, for the rest of my life. Only then a few guys got histrionic over the very notion that other people might find boobplate cheesy, and I personally find that vastly more stupid, regardless of any underlying problems with the design, or a lack thereof." option?

You are unceasingly mischaracterizing the opinion of those other persons, for the sake of putting up a strawman opponent you can easily knock down and ridicule, rather than your actual rhetorical opponents, whose real opinions and arguments you never engage with. Virtually everyone here has said they like Hilde's design, and of those who haven't expressly said it, I can't recall a single person who said they didn't like it. Stop trying to make this into something it is not because you believe in some kind of vast insidious plot to sanitize games in the name of "wokeness" and you think they are coming after the bustlines of your favourite digital doll collection in this game next. Nobody is asserting opinions vaguely like those you are attributing to them.

People like and don't like the design (or have mixed feelings about it) for a variety of reasons, and their not liking one feature that you happen to adore doesn't make them enemies of the game or of reason. Or even of "sexyness" or however you want to label it. You are not the arbiter of any of those things. No one here elected you to be and its tedious that we have hear about "PC culture gone mad" every time someone happens to dislike something titty-oriented that you love the shit out of. We get it: you like that stuff. And you think that "sex sells". Oh wow, what an insight--never occurred to the rest of us that it might have an impact on a fighting game's design. Your opinion on those matters is now very much an established part of public record in this community.

But please stop trying to dress people up as moral crusaders any and every time they have the slightest criticism of the design that you don't approve of. When you absolutely must comment on these things (and hint: that number is less than any time someone else on the board comments on the nature of female design), please try to keep the tone from sounding so aggressive and needlessly inflammatory. I'm going to join numerous others here who have said, in some form or another over the last few days and months: "Please take it down a notch or ten." We're all here to have over-sized opinions about mostly very small things: that's the nature of the place, granted. But 110% confrontation on everything you disapprove of is just a bit much. It makes fights out of things we mostly agree on.

Back on the subject of character speaks native tongue, I wonder if Haohmaru will be the first character to do so, or if he will have an English voice actor.

Geralt didn’t have a Japanese voice actor before SoulCalibur VI, so I imagine the opposite will be true for Haohmaru.
