Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I think Rock would be more popular if they made him handsome. Remove the weird scar/print/paint on his forehead and just work on his face a bit more.

Like I get the impression he's not uggo under this skull thing in SC1

But the above is heihachi diaper tier ugly
I don't think Rock needs to be handsome, per se. I think his character very much lends itself to a guy who could have a face like a side of beef. But I do agree there is something quite unlikable about the guy's face in SCIV (which is a game I very often defend on a visual design level, in general). It's something I didn't notice so much until I started to see close ups of that face over time posting here, but once you see it, you can't unsee it. And I can't quite put my finger on it--I'm not sure it's any one thing...it's just...that's the face of a guy who obviously is a methhead, has been to a klan meeting, and is not allowed to live within two miles of a school, you know what I mean? That's who that guy is. The unhealthy, death-warmed-over looking skin, the handlebar mustache, the expression that makes you want to take a shower... Yeah, I often find the tiny deconstructions here regarding the faces and voices of the characters in the series to be nit-picky/over-the-top, but I am with the consensus on this one: no bueno, no bueno. Wasn't he pretty reasonable in SCIII? Trying to remember...

Edit, after reviewing some Rock SCIII cutscenes: Oh yeah, so he's on his way towards his eventual nastiest version of a hillbilly look, but it's not nearly as bad as yet at that point.

You have CREATION mode for that. Voildo's outfit is availible for all males Kappa.

Well when you put it like that, there is something about Rock's face that screams "I'm shady as hell", lmao. But then again, I feel a good portion of the cast's faces were screwed up anyways... Like Raphael...

Yeah, but at least he's supposed to be losing his humanity/becoming some sort of vampire analogue. I mean, if anything, given how the soul edge corruption usually goes in the franchise, he's getting off pretty lite by just looking like he's a sociopathic mannequin with late stage liver disease and TB... Rock meanwhile is not just completely human, he's supposed to be amongst the most purely heroic of the protagonists, just trying to protect his adopted son. So why would you go with a design that looks like Hulk Hogan doing an impression of Jack Nicholson in The Shinning? That guy looks like every one of his dates ends with a police report.

That's true, but tbf Raphael is supposed to be human in SC6 and he still looks like he's supposed to be on an episode of Botched.
