Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Azwel comes from the Holy Roman Empire.
Not quite, the Aval Organization is located in Denmark, plus the organization has ties to British Arthurian mythology. The Holy Roman Empire didn't have dominion over that region. The most likely ethnicity for Azwel is either a Jute, an Angle or a Saxon under the Germanic ethnic umbrella.

There are very few actual villains on the roster to begin with. Inferno (a cluster of many souls with no single nationality), Cervantes (Spaniard), Azwel (comes from Holy Roman Empire, so can be from modern Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria, the Czech and Slovak Republics, as well as parts of eastern France, northern Italy, Slovenia or western Poland), Astaroth (a golem built from multiple bodies, also apparently made in Persia) and Tira (birthplace unknown) are the only clear baddies really. Even Nightmare is just good guy Siegfried under an evil spell.
• Raphael's got a tweener status where he's a caring father but willing to plunge the rest of the world into chaos to secure a future for his daughter
• Ivy's also got a tweener status since she was part of Nightmare's group for a while, but eventually left and is often at odds with Cervantes (who is undeniable malicious)
• Zasalamel seems like an evil mastermind, and was once power-mad. He seems to be a shepherd of humanity, but to what ends we can never be too sure.

They're not outright villains anymore by SC6, but they don't pure motives.

Azwel's birthplace is officially the Holy Roman Empire, it's in his biography in the Museum, you can check it up yourself. Apparently at some point he moved out.

Exactly what I was saying.

Two minor questions:

1) What's it with the new effect that looks like a few snowflakes blown away by the wind on some stages, prior to the first round? Does it mean anything at all? When precisely does it occur?

2) After Setsuka's release, I noticed that instead of doing her "victory" hand pose, Xianghua would wave good-bye after ending a match with her CE. However, I haven't seen it since, despite the match being ended by CE. What are the conditions for this to be triggered?
Anybody?

EDIT: Here's the Xianghua easter egg in motion:

How many easter eggs and little special extra effects like this are there (they also seem to be adding more and more)? I just recently noticed the lizard umbrella eyes flash in Setsuka's CE. Would love a compilation.

I'd argue Raphael is really not so much in the neutral category: his paternal love for Amy is clearly genuine and profound, but even this early in the narrative, he is a manipulative sociopath and serial murderer who kills to acquire wealth and influence, and seems to find it all very amusing. And indeed, even his concern for Amy is twisted up in his lust for power, just becoming (much as his hatred of his family) another rationalization for his need to bend the world to his will. And all of this is just what comes before he and Amy become so malfested that they begin murdering their servants for sport.

Bruh, this just put the twisted thoughts in Raphy's mind into vivid perspective for me. Very good points on his alignment as well.

Raphael is no saint, and I'd definitely consider him a villain. However, killing Lord Dumas was 100% justified. Screw that classist piece of trash.
He deserved to die.

I don’t think serial murderer is an apt description as, to my knowledge, all of the people he’s killed by the time SC6 ended we’re done in self defense (excluding Dumas).
And yet Dumas had it coming the most. Also, Raph tries to murder the Conduit in cold blood during Libra of Souls, and Amy has to stop him. There isn't really any justification for that. I love Raph for being a scheming, villainous bastard & being a loving dad. Both are part of his charm.

Raphael's a villain with a soft side for his family. He's not evil for evil's sake. Thats why I said he's not a pure villain, but he's definitely more evil than good. His good acts include protecting/providing for Amy, and opposing Nightmare (for selfish reasons) but freeing siegfried. He doesn't go around killing people to collect their souls, but its very likely that if he succeeded he would have plunged Europe into chaos.

It honestly feels like there are more neutral and good characters than evil ones. I mean for the good you have: Sophitia, Talim, Kilik, Siegfried, Xianghua, Hilde, Cassandra, Maxi, Mina and Hwang. For neutral, you have: Mitsurugi, Yoshimitsu, Taki, Voldo, Ivy, Groh, Setsuka, Amy, and Zasalamel. Evil? Well...Inferno/Nightmare, Raphael, Astaroth, Cervantes, Azwel, and Tira.

Seems almost pretty stacked if you ask me.

Agreed, but then again, that's par for the course in heroic fantasy, in most of its permutations as a genre; the heroes tend to be more numerous to allow for complicated ensemble inter-relations, while the villains with distinct personalities anywhere near a leading character status tend to be fewer in number. It's not a hard and fast rule by any means, but substantially common.

Since TTT2, the characters in Tekken started to speak in their native languages instead of English. Do you guys think SC can follow suit?
Hopefully not. It was the case in Soul Blade/Soul Edge, but the way Tekken does it is ridiculous: everybody speaks every language (or at least well enough to understand each other), they should have better ambitions than slapping each other across the globe.

No because character interactions are far more integral than Tekken, plus the trash talk in matches won't be as effective.

So how would everyone compare Season Pass 1 vs Season Pass 2?
Both had ups and downs.

S1 ups:
S1 got a much cooler guest from S2.
S2 CaS Packs picked up some steam by the end of the season, but overall I think S1 CaS Packs were still more substantial.
S2 had some really cool character Chronicles, but S1 Cassandra's and Amy's chapters are still the best in the game.

S2 ups:
S1 had Tira as on-disk DLC which was shady. No such controversies with S2.
S2 gave us cool (and also not quite as cool) free stages, which S1 didn't.
S2 gave us free story chapters, which S1 didn't.

Draw:
As far as SC-original playable characters go, I think we have a draw. I personally have a slight bias towards S1, but I reconise it's a hightly subjective opinion, also S2 bringing back Hwang is a huge plus.
