Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

grieve edge
Either grieve edge or Brawler style like Tifa from FF7, it would bring a different touch to the game. Personally i did not like the Devil Jin style in SC5 because it was bound to the movelist of Tekken. If the move are much more intuitive and practical (or even acrobatic like Tifa) it would please alot of people (hoping @Autumn)

I feel like the likelihood of a Final Fantasy guest isn’t that great, personally. Allegedly, we were supposed to have Cloud back on SoulCalibur II for PS2, but we got Heihachi instead. Lightning would have been perfect for SoulCalibur V, particularly considering her new rival for Final Fantasy XIII-2, still fresh, was almost literally wielding Soul Edge, so it would have been a neat tie-in, but we only got Ali Hillis as a custom character voice, which seems almost too on the nose, like they were working on it, it fell through, then they got Ezio instead. I may be reading too much into it, but it feels like they can’t seem to land the deal when it comes to Final Fantasy guests.

Since there are generic lizardman bodies for CAS, its going to be very confusing if a true unique lizardman moveset comes out.
I said 'lizardman' to reinforce the style I want (small ax & shield), many use 'Aeon' to refer to the SC 5 version, we know it's the same character.

If we're counting Tekken, though, they landed that deal.

Granted, I see more of the mutual benefit to both parties there. SC/Namco definitely stands to benefit more in the most obvious ways from a crossover featuring a FFVII guest character than FFVIIR/Square Enix stands to benefit from letting SC borrow a FFVII character.

That being said, SE has made two deals with Namco in very recent memory: allowing Noctis in Tekken and 2B in SC (at least I assume SE, as publisher of the "NieR" games, still had some approval role with 2B).

If good relationships were established during those processes and SE feels that Namco did justice to the characters, we could see a FFVII character loaned out to SC as a way of keeping those connections fresh and keeping fan interest up during the drought as we await the next installment in the remake project. Even if it's not going to offer as immediate a benefit to Square Enix as to Namco, it could still be worthwhile.

As much as this makes sense,, those 4 don't make that compelling of a season pass.

The true Lizardman has a real name though. His name is Aeon and they can easily just call him that along with a new design plus the gear he has in SCVI atm is currently inaccessible. As for movesets, that’s up to the devs on what they would use for him.

Libra? a mode who barely people plays.
I mean there’s no reason to play it now, but it was nice at launch, filling in story gaps and unlocking the last chapters for Raphael and Zasalamel.

many ax & shield with differents design
But there’s only three, and only two of them actually used. The weapon set and move set are equally incomplete, but it would make a lot of sense to finish it and release it instead of making something else from scratch, with time and/or budget being a concern.

Yeah, both Arthur and Han-myeong got downgraded to NPCs, which was always one of the biggest points in Hwang’s favor for inclusion. Aeon is an NPC too, in Libra, but he still at least has his unique armor set that you can’t unlock. And then there’s Salia.

yeah but look at how many users familiar with the game post here versus how many "casual" fans who would be confused. They'd really have to make Aeon visually stand out from the generic lizardmen (recycled SC4 models). It definately can't be the first reveal in a season pass, as there's a chance the confusion could derail the hype.

Aeon already called "Aeon" in Libra of Soul, about his body they could change of course.

Just give a excuse like Kunpaetku give him more power to kidnap Bangoo and make him more unique in terms of design.

Yeah, I think he will be a good option as season bonus.

I'm sure Tifa's a really cool character in her source material, I just don't like the idea of a bare fist-fighter in SC. Although, there's worse ideas for fighting styles... glares at Algol and Azwel
I'll give you one, in my opinion, good reason to have an unarmed based fighter in this particular game. Create a Soul. I can't count the number of characters I could neither make nor fight with because there was no unarmed style in this game. It's more than your typical fighter thanks to create a soul, and an unarmed fighter fills a huge gaping whole in that particular aspect of the game.

So the main reason to have an unarmed figher is so you can make a CAS of an existing character that is known to fight barehanded ? Not really the strongest justification. Unarmed combat can be simulated by just using the grab and kick button, and certain characters have punches and shoulder strikes. You are only limited to your imagination. Like if you're not talking about competitive gameplay, then you're 100% free to already simulate weaponless combat in the existing system. You can pick Nightmare and spam K 6K, 4KK.. and both sides will be happy.

One reason why the boxing gloves as a creation part was so universally reviled was because it was out-of-place (not only chronologically, but because it was a hand protection in a weapon based figher).

I don't see how a glove/gauntlet style is any more out of place here than katars, tonfa, or any other short range weapon that's already in or has been in.
Its simple really. Characters already have gauntlets as clothing items and there will be confusion as to whether gauntlets are solely cosmetic or for actual combat. Secondly, you will still have a massive range disadvantage against even katar/tonfa, since you could always CAS your character to the smallest size and now the game's gotta do extra balancing due to this extreme.

In Azwel's case
• I don't like his moveset and I think he's out of place. He'll join the class of characters like Necrid / Algol / Azwel that seem to infect the series but there's always enough interest to bring them in for canonical/story reasons. Azwel is a step in the right direction, because at least you always see the gloves and he's not just protruding spikes out of his body for no reason.
• Azwel is not actually striking you with metal gauntlets, they're just magical conduits that emit energy weapons (makes me want to vomit thinking how out of place this is). Characters like Ivy and Zas do the "battle wizard" or "warrior that can also summon magic" way better because at the of the day you're still identifying them with their whip sword and death scythe first.

If you’re referring to that the unarmed fighting style should be CaS only, then I have to honestly just say no to that. Been there, done that. T’was less than stellar.

No I was arguing that the existence of CaS is a good reason to have such a style, not to limit it like before.
