Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

By the way, this might be a coincidence but did any of you guys notice that Nightmare, Ivy, and Astaroth each have a shield in the background of their character art? I don't think other characters have it, including Siegfried. I'm guessing that Aeon or Lizardman will have one too when he is revealed.

Makes sense. Nightmare, Ivy, Astaroth and Lizardman are on the same team so I guess they wanted something to show that.

The game being a reboot and going back to SC1 events is exactly why I think we could see Rock gone for good, it gives them the chance to keep him out from the beginning so they don't feel obligated to keep throwing him in later ones despite not really having any ideas and plans for what to do with him.

They've been trying to replace him since SC1, rebooting the storyline would be a perfect opportunity to fully focus on the replacement giving Asta all the best grappler stuff instead of having to split what is essentially one moveset between two characters trying to figure out a slightly different focus for each when neither are particularly popular (with Rock even being under a bunch of the SCV new cast in their official poll, despite the other missing old characters getting a big boost).

We wouldn't be losing out on any big storylines by removing him either as a full character either, Rock could quite easily be changed into a background NPC like Rothion and Toki and Xianglian with nothing missed. Hwang/Yun are the same way (though which one will get the focus is yet to be seen).

That's another thing, people have mentioned they could revamp his character or story and make him more interesting with more to do but they couldn't think of anything interesting for Rock to do in SCII or III or IV or V, why would they suddenly have a bunch of great ideas now?

considering the current roster so far, the remaining characters should be:

Base roster

Cervantez
Raphael
Tira
Hwang/Yun
Groh's old man

DLC

Cassandra
Rock
Hilde
Amy

I for one would be very disappointed if Cassandra doesn't make the cut. If I'm not mistaked she's been in 3 SC games (2,3,4). since she was absent last game in only makes sense for them to bring her back for fan service. Serious question, how popular IS Cassandra? How did she place on the polls? I would like to see some of PAT's moves incorporated into her, but with a feminine twist. I would like her to have his 66B and his 66 B+K.

Characters that I hope we never see again:
Setsuka. Sadly, she has a fairly good chance of making it via DLC. I might be alone in this but I find her fighting style incredibly annoying. Still, I preferred her over that abysmal Alpha PAT

Algol. Also Annoying. Projectiles, magic chair moves, bubbles, long juggles, Necrid-like weapons. Someone was high AF when they conceptualized him.

Viola. No words necessary. I liked her design aesthetically but that was it.

Night Terror was awesome. I would be cool to have a playable overpowered character that isn't tourney legal but is just there for fun. I know it aint gonna happen, but damn that was the coolest boss ever.

Also, this was the best stage ever

I actually don't mind seeing Lizardman and Triple H back as a guest too, at least that way we are sure to see Cassandra and Amy back too because weapon based clones are apperently on for this game unlike SC5 :p

I'd gladly spend 100$ just to get Rock. I mean i'm getting the collector's edition & the season pass anyways since i love this series and want to support it all the way, and having Rock as part of the season pass would make me very happy. I had a lot of fun using him in SCIV.

I mean, I'm buying the collector's edition on PS4 that likely won't get played, and then the game on Steam with season pass, and second season pass if we get one, so my support is a given, no matter who we get. I'm almost certainly buying a second copy on Steam with season pass for a friend as well. I have faith in the game and the roster, whoever does or doesn't make it, it will be for the best.

Same here, unless they pull off something unreasonable before the release Kappa

I'll remember this!
Remember it all you want, you can even set a reminder or something, I'll do it.
I'll get a PS4 Xbox pc version of the game. I'll only play the Steam one xD
I just hope they announce it before the release of the game cuz after as a DLC or 2nd season pass. I don't think I'll be able to find the collector's editions :p (I hate used stuff or buying game after their release)
DAY ONE(preorder) for the win!!!

I would be mad at Project Soul/Namco, duh.
Then you should not. Buying something blindly then complain that it has something you do not like, it is not a clever thing to do.

'ey Lex, got an inside scoop for us to hold us over until the weekend?!?!?!?!??!?!??! Pretty please?!?!?
The wait is not long Soul, think about Project Soul team and how disappointed would be if someone ruins their surprises.

I bought it in good trust that they will give me and the others things we like because they've built up trust with us. So I'd have every right to complain in this case.

Rock should be in the game period like all the classic characters. I prefer Rock over Astaroth, always have because his design is more appealing to me and I would like to play a grappler who I find more appealing. I cannot believe that people here are still beating the drum what characters should be kicked and even worse the suggestion that they should be booted entirely from the series.

From Soul Blade to Soul Calibur 4 there are a total of 29 unique playable characters, 5 playable mimics and 7 playable guest characters. Those 29 playable characters should have a guaranteed slot at this point in the series with Algol being the only one up for debate due to the plot of SC4. With the current new characters for SC6 plus the mimic Inferno and the possible unannounced character that would bring a total of 33. To those that have the energy to constantly spout about which characters should be removed, can you focus that energy on social media please, pushing for a character pool of 33 so nearly everyone can be happy and make this the best Soul Calibur game ever released.

Here I've also done a full list to share on social media to generate buzz. Please do this instead of wasting energy beating someone elses opinion down because they want a character returning that you don't, it's getting tiring.

I personally have a massive distaste for Rock, but I will be respectful: To Rock fans, what exactly is it that you like about him, and what is it that makes it seem like him making it in over other more popular characters would be a good idea? He seems like a genuine waste of a slot to me, he's never had an interesting personality or storyline (ie outshined by other characters who would be a better fit in the restricted base roster), he's never exactly been top of the tiers in gameplay (which I know is half-irrelevant as they can fix this), and he just is not as popular as other characters who could be sacrificed if he was to make it in. So why do you guys think it's a good idea for him to be here instead of someone else? Genuinely curious and admittedly would be quite annoyed if he was to be in the base roster instead of someone like Cassandra or Tira or Raphael, speaking for myself.

Oddly enough, its his unpopularity where the potential lies. People keep going on about Astaroth being on the roster so he isnt needed but most games have more than one large, brute type and there is an overabundance of every other kind imaginable.

Now, to address the issue of unpopularity, i'm fully aware he needs to be changed. Preferably a brand new weapon entirely. Dual axes, giant flail, whatever but he does need something. So i'm effectively talking about a brand new character in that regard. He can keep the name, some old moves maybe, but everything else will be fresh and new.

This way we kind of please two different types of people. Those that want to see new characters, and those who want to see Rock return. Aeon was made better in the same way. Of course this is just how i look at things but there it is. Otherwise i would completely agree everyone you listed is a better choice.
