Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Interestingly it seems there was an all-time peak of 14 players online 7 months ago

As far as I can tell, what they have on Steam at the moment is basically a hollow shell for pre-order purposes. There are no files. So the 14 players were probably a handful of employees just verifying that the pieces were in place.

I think I'm the only one now hoping we don't get another guest and instead get another old returning character.
I mean really sure guest help sell the game but that's exactly it, they help sell the game not sell the game AND a DLC/Season pass.
Just look at Tekken people AR far more excited forbthe 2ns season pass than they were for the 1st, that should say lot to Bamco.

No one's said it yet but during the win pose of the Tira trailer, the ring is shown floating for a frame before the model spawns in to hold it.
One of Kilik's intros has him in the wrong place for a frame, he's to the right and back of where he should be, then he teleports into the right place. I'm guessing that they've been sloppy with their animation timelines to get the game presentable quick, and the timeline likely has his base position in the default coordinate position for frame 0 and his base position updates to where he should be frame 1. Likewise, Tira's probably has her ring blade in the correct position and her in the default position on frame 0 before hers updates frame 1. That's a very easy problem to fix though, so we shouldn't see it in the final game unless nobody at Project Soul noticed it.

So... Evil Seed is pronounced "Evil Sperm" in Japanese... Fascinating. :D

I'm not sure how you determined they were more hyped, but I mean, the 2nd season pass simply has more content. Plus, there is a complete rebalance and mechanics change happening at the same time, which people are assuming has to do with the season pass but it's separate. The Geese reveal has been the biggest they've done yet.

Bah, screw the extra time waisted on 2p outfits. They were much better served by focusing on creating better story modes, etc. People will get past the 2P costumes because while nifty they aren't truly important. Meanwhile due to them having a story mode and things to do with CaS character's with their own story mode, making the game more than just a basic fighter I've managed to get 3 whole people interested in buying the game that never would have before.

This game has more single player and casual content than pretty much anything before. At least it appears to. If they focused on silly things like 2 player costumes over things like the second story mode, etc, and people found themselves with nothing to do but fight online, well that would be it for soul calibur. One of the main reasons 5 failed is because it was repetitive and boring, the story was incomplete and sucked so people had to force themselves through it, and there were no interest modes to the casual player other than CaS itself which failed as there was nothing interesting to do with the CaS character.

Everyone is complaining about little things when what we really got this week was a godsend that's more likely to save the series than if they had instead done the things everyone is complaining about. Imagine if instead of the new story mode for example we got Tira on the main roster and a bunch of 2 player costumes all made with CaS parts like most are? How would that benefit the game over the new story mode?

While i agree with the 2P comments to an extent, the rest of what you said is complete nonsense. Vs battles is at the end of the day, the point of a fighting game. The movesets (characters) are what makes up a fighting game. Single player modes are just time wasting activities, on par with cell phone games. You dont need an extensive movelist and complicated mechanics, (half of which you will ignore anyway) just to clear through a game's story. There are plenty other types of games available to scratch that itch.

SC 3 has given ..."fans" the illusion that SC can branch into several areas other fighting games can not but as i pointed out earlier, all of this comes at the cost of something else.... characters for example. So if anyone ever happends to be pissed that your favorite character isnt making the roster, either on release or by DLC, you can thank the "fans" who demanded single player modes.

SC5 failed due to missing characters, not a lack of single player modes.

Just by looking at the people reaction, Geese was the only one that worked Noctis was too dumb, but those characters aren't play that much anymore compared to when they apreared.
And of course the balance patch have nothing to do with the season pass, I think they know it. Imagine having a game today thay lock you competitively if you don't buy a dlc that would be a new one buying a new game like guilty and blaze are doing sure but the same game where you don't have accès to the updated version if you don't buy a DLC i don't think anyone is that dumb for that. I hope so :v

I still would like 2B to B in the game ;p
But in the same time I would like every SC character to be back first before having to deal with guests and stuff, and for now we are still missing quite a few, especially now that we are pretty sure we'll be getter 3 new character un this game.

In case anyone was wondering about the vinyl boxset, BN posted the full tracklist, which seems to be printed on seven standard black LP discs:

Why did they leave out the single best theme (Ephemeral Dream) they've ever composed?

Maybe because tastes differ and PS team changes so much, who knows how many (of any) of the old PS dev are still working on this game, or any next game to come...
Hope I'm wrong and the team is mostly the same.

Wait a minute, they included Courage Ablaze and Endless Warfare. Cassandra and Raphael confirmed? :sc2cas2: :sc2rap2:

I'm also rather disappointed that they misprinted Wings of Faith. Really hope they caught that and it won't go into production like that, would bug me.

Yeah the tracks they chose are weird. No Ephemeral Dream? No Unwavering Resolve? Pass.

Speaking of music. Does each character have their own theme in SCVI?

Every single feature they add is worthwhile: more characters, more singleplayer modes, intro cinematic, 2P costumes. Different features are more important than others, but that also depends on who you ask. You may think singleplayer modes are pointless, but there are plenty of people who would disagree. I can remember when SF5 got released a ton of fans went crazy because of the lack of an arcade mode. The complaints were loud enough that Capcom decided to make arcade mode one of the primary features of the next release.

I miss SC3. I feel like that's the only game in the series where Namco tried to satisfy every type of fan by going crazy with content. The game's one big downside is that it badly needed a patch. I'm not sure why you use SC3 as an example of content at expense of characters. SC3 included all characters from SC2 while introducing new ones.

"SC5 failed due to missing characters, not a lack of single player modes.
Soul Calibur failed due to there being 3 bloody mimics, the game being pushed out the door before it was ready, the lack of most returning characters in exchange for some horribly written new ones using similar styles, AND because the game did not have the support required of a game post launch.

I would also disagree slightly as I believe that singleplayer modes are a necessity for fighting games these days because the initial boost of sales will do more for the games' future than anything else. Some of those casual players will become competitive players because they were drawn initially for other reasons. While yes the the budget for that means less of something else the way the market for fighting games tends to be that doesn't mean we would get more characters on the base roster but rather there would be even more DLC available to purchase.

While SC6 isn't as good content-wise as SC3 and SC2, it's already much better than SC4 and SC5. It's going in the right direction and if this sells well then they can learn from this and make the next in the series even better.
Of course SC3 had much more content it came after the SC2, the highest selling and most popular game in the series, it likely got a bigger budget as a result. The opposite happened with SC6.

Compare the game to the previous installment and you can already see that there have been many improvements. That's where we should be making comparisons.
