Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

After some mulling over, some thoughts:

Gameplay:

• She had her spear becomes highlighted both teal and blue(against Tira), and it appears her howling wolf-blast combo ender seems to remove the glow. So does this suggest that this is one way to expend a charge?
• New animation for 2nd hit of C2B (against Nightmare), and I the weapon changing to all teal, which looks different against Tira. Could this merely ..be a soul charge difference, or a lighting difference, or a true mechanic difference?
• I was hoping her SC5 66A+B animation would be her standard A+B, but it looks like its just a SC enhanced string ender
• Her wolf-blast animation at the end of her CE looks like it'll ringout pretty well, I wonder how it'll compare to Talim's gale blast.
• Secondly, with her heavy wolf motif, will this mean Zwei is 100% not coming back, considering how much emphasis the Project Soul has made the improvement on differentiating the roster's motifs and themes? Unless Ein comes back as some gorilla or something, having 2 wolf-motif'd characters would not be good.
• I wonder how her preferred range would be compared to Seong Mina.
• I'm hoping they toned down her step mobility. It was always surprising to me that a small girl in heavy plate armor holding a massive lance/spear would be so mobile.

Aesthetics:

• Her RE animation against heavy low attacks where she does a twirl is really cool.
• Her gold armor would probably look better using her signature silver armor. Going to be the first thing I change
• The gorget with the 3 wolves looks a little low (isn't it supposed to protect her throat)? However, we don't want that to cover her signature mole.
• Her princess tiara looks surprisingly plain. I would have expected some jewels more befitting her standing as a princess.
• The coat is legit badass. The knight armor + regal coat makes her look very distinct from sieg/nightmare.
• She has chainmail underneath her shirt under her armor. There's no way mid-armor break will reveal it.
• Her hair style is the 2nd worse in the series IMO (after helmet-less messy hair SC4 1p). I'm aware you won't be able to fit her princess hair with her new queen coat, but one can dream.
• The 2 chains across her waist to hold the coat looks pretty flimsy. Chains seems to clash with her royal image. While its a small detail, it stands out because it's in the center of her key art (which is amazing as usual).
• Overall, the weakest Hilde design. Really hoping her solid SC4 1p is in. Apparantly her SC4 2p princess dress was a CAS part data mined from Lost Swords, so one can hope.

Animations:
Hilde always had really dope attack animations. I'm hoping for the following animations to return:
SC5 4B, sway back TC long range thrust
SC4 1B / SC5 44B (functions a lot like Mina's 1A).
SC5 1B is also a nice low poke.
SC4 FC C1B
SC4 2A+B K (I always liked the fluidity of this one)
SC4 6B+K looked cool as a leaping spear thrust.
SC4 22B / SC5 33B was a cool TC looking hilt thrust, especially with the BE ender.
Back grab : Her backdrop suplex was pretty nice looking

Look at it this way, it's only November and we already have half of the season 2 characters revealed. Although, that's not really saying much because we have no clue where they are at with Haohmaru. The legal aspects of that probably haven't even been fnished yet.
If the legal aspects were not finished, they wouldn't have been able to even reveal him. He is probably already halfway done, but you cannot truly expect them to show him off at this stage, he wasn't even scheduled to be ready now.

To be honest guys I was expected Hilde, but not so early! I expected first Hwang or Yun! BTW I'm so anxious about Setsuka! @DanteSC3 is right, their DLC plan for Season 2 is female(Hilde), male(Haou Maru), female(Setsuka) (PLEASE GOD) and male(Hwang or Yun) This Season Pass is the ideal and my dream for the game! I hope to come true!

I think Setsuka is the one character who might as well be a lock. I'll be extremely surprised if she's not the third slot. The biggest question mark is the fourth character. I think it's Yun-Seong but it could easily be someone like Hwang or Lizardman instead.

Apparently some historians do debate if those wings were used in battles or not, but to me it looks like yes is a much more probable answer than no here.
There are many old painting from the time period depicting winged hussars fighting with their wings on, those paintings are historical evidence, I don't see how they can be simply dismissed.

And so on.
Again - if memory serves me right, they didn't use those bulky wings from the picture, those were most probably a cermonial ones. They may have used some other ornaments that would be way more practical and safe.

SoulCalibur VI steam chart numbers have been doing pretty well.

I know this site is dedicated to the topic of boob armours, but I'm gonna be rude and change the topic to something else for a second.

Does anyone have any theories as to how they've changed the Hilde charge system? There are some big hints in the trailer as to how it works now, but it's difficult to say with 100% certainty what the new system is like.

First of all, here's a link to the trailer (which will be useful as I'll be mentioning a bunch of timestamps):

It looks like they've added an effect indicating if the weapons have been charged. For instance, at 0:58 you can see her sword is glowing red while the spear is glowing blue. She then does a fancy sword attack which removes the red glow, and then a fancy spear attack which removes the blue glow.

There's a more interesting moment in the trailer. At 0:47 Hilde has a glowing sword and does a jumping slash with the sword which causes a lethal hit. Immediately afterwards, she does an attack which has the same animation as the charge 3 A move from SC4 and SC5 (and it loses the charge afterwards). So it seems you can use a non-charge A move while your sword is charged, something you couldn't do in 4 or 5.

Another interesting moment is at 1:09. It looks like she activates soul charge and it immediately charges both sword and spear. And then she does a couple of moves which uses up the charge (she's still glowing afterwards, which I'm pretty sure is due to soul charge).

So, we can conclude a couple of things:
  • Weapons now glow indicating they're charged. Red for sword, and blue for spear.
  • You can do normal A attacks without spending the sword charge (this would also mean you don't need to keep A held down to keep the charge).
  • Soul Charge instantly charges up sword and spear.
It makes me wonder if they've changed how you charge up the weapons to begin with. Maybe they've removed the mechanic with holding down A and B to charge up the weapons. Maybe it works in a similar way as Cassandra's Divine Force where you build up the charge by doing specific moves, and then you use up the charge with specific input.

Anyone have a different theory as to how it could work now?

After some close and repeated watching of the trailer, my best educated guess is that her charge attacks will work like Cassandra's. Specific attacks will charge up sword and spear attacks and certain move inputs will require a certain level of charge.

The only other possibility is that Hilde will probably be able to charge buffer again simply by holding buttons while the animation is playing out, but nothing in the trailer suggests this.

In the sequence where she fights Nightmare, she immediately enters Soul Charge state and launches an immediate attack (to my knowledge, no one in the game is capable of doing this), follows it up with another spear attack that immediately charges the spear and the launches a charged spear attack. This is the clearest sign I can see that the manner in which she charges her old mechanics from SC4/5 is now based on SC6 Cassandra.

But whereas Cassandra only really has one key charge, Hilde appears to have two, as noted in the earlier footage with a red glow and blue glow on her sword and spear respectively.

I'll feel trolled.
But in all honesty I wouldn't be surprised at the same time, Hilde was... Awkward timing...
I expect Season 2 to honestly be
Algol, and Lucius now.

Hilde genuinely has me lost. She seemd so early S3 or late S2 to me.
I'm confused.
It does kinda make sense. When you think about it, other than Hwang and Setsuka, Hilde has the most vocal fanbase. She's likely the most well known to the wider fanbase, and that means she has the widest appeal. People generally prefer waifus, so that gives and incentive to buy the character, not to mention Haomaru. We have two good sellers, a fairly popular character, as well as a guest, to draw more people in. A curveball like Hilde also makes us think about these kind of things, the wider fanbase mostly talked about Hilde being in S3, so the curveball of her being the first reveal makes people talk. She is also arguably the most widely appealing character other than Haoh, as she is a character that is seen as appealing, and her gameplan is not as difficult as Setsuka's, so it makes sense to draw people in with her.

Now we're going in on who's going to be next, so free soeculation and possible hype. I mean, yeah we should be getting a bit more info often, maybe a bit more of that awesome gameplay that appears in the reveals, but otherwise people are more interested in the game all of a sudden.

I still stand by my idea that its gonna be either Yun/Hwang and Setsuka. Though setsuka may be held back to try and appeal for a third season, I can't see this happening as there may not be a third season, so the devs are trying to get the most popular characters up next.

Sorry for the text wall.

Your mistake, as well as the rest of us Hwang believers, was underestimating the power of waifuism. The waifus will always win. Which also supports the idea that Algol has no chance, let alone Hwang or Yun-seong, or even Lucius, as much as we would love to see him get some love. I would put more stock in Maelys than Lucius.

Ashlotte? Please?
Well, she is grey... but the real question would be if they’re willing to pay for her copyrights. I would approve of this plan, however, because if we are destined for waifus, then we could do far worse than Ashlotte. Besides that, she’s a canon automaton.

I ignored thinking of it that way...
So waifuism is probably the answer you're right...

Well.. Maelys will be a hysterical addition Kappa
