Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Lol what? He is way better than he was in SCV. His options are so much better.

Now, that's the problem. He has the illusion of more options, simply because they took most of his old moveset and integrated it into his new prep. However, I hope you like getting sidestepped by even the most remotely competent player. Raphael is the only character who is as weak to step as he is. His horizontal options are virtually non-existent. He has one singular A attack that has run counter, and it's generally too slow to use.

Whether he is objectively better than his previous iterations or not, doesn't matter. In this game, he is garbage.

I did some more snooping through files but I can't find anything new which is noteworthy. I'm finding mentions of practically every character in text. There's text directly mentioning characters like Li Long, Hilde, and Setsuka. But it's just random lore or flavour text. I don't know why, but there are strings in memory for characters like Natsu, Xiba, Charade, and probably every SC character. But that's probably remnants of imported data from previous games.

The most noteworthy thing I've found so far is the list of fighting styles where Edge Master is mentioned. He's the last entry in the list, which would suggest he's the last character they worked on. Edge Master is one of the Hideo Yoshie's (art director) favourite characters, so that could be a reason for them to work on him.

Okay, but I wasn't arguing that he was good I was saying he was better than he has been in past games. He's always been terrible against side stepping. You said he was the weakest he's ever been, which isn't really true.

In training mode is there a way to tell if a move has any special properties on counter hit, other than turning counterhit on and testing out every single move? Like it tells me if its a lethal hit, break attack, low/mid/high etc, but I have no idea about CH stuff.

It is true - here's why. They upped the speed of 8WR as an inherent mechanic of the game. Raphael is weak to 8WR. In spite of this, he actually has even less options for run counters. He may have had less options in previous games, but those options weren't tied into a vertical reliant stance. This makes him incredibly weak, in relation to the game's other mechanics. Having options doesn't make him "strong" if he can't use them.

Play the game against people who aren't the CPU, and tell me he is "strong".

It's early, but I like how it seems like there's more thought put into characters' moves. Nightmare has more stances , and can switch to any of them from different attacks and stances, covering some holes in his gameplay from previous games. Astaroth has this running grab move to help him overcome distances. I really am liking this.
I noticed on the game credits DIMPS worked on this game. The same DIMPS that worked on Street Fighter 4 and 5, no?

I was actually looking at the credits for the first time as well. And yeah, this is the same DIMPS that worked on various Street Fighter games. I'm surprised to see so many Project Soul members returning to work on this. Since many of them worked on other recent Namco titles like Pokken, I thought there would be less returning members.

That said, the amount of Namco people who worked on SC6 is very small. This is more of a Dimps production than anything else. I guess we can't complain as the end result isn't bad (aside from the fact it had a small budget), but it's weird to see Namco outsource almost the entire development.

Can anyone saying raph is strong educate us?
Tested lot of stuff i am not a great tester indeed but i had quite an experience on raph in last chapterS.

Since i ve seen people saying raph is strong due to 1B prep (a low vertical poke negative on HIT) i'd like something concrete to work on.

question..….do you earn Achievements/Trophies for completing each character's Story mode?
Not after each one, but there's trophies for beating the main story, for beating one character's story, for beating ten characters' stories, and for beating all of them.

Dude, that's obvious. But it's not so easy in battle, and you can't spam (slow) guard break attacks for the entire match...
You do it enough to scare them from using it against you.

I don't know what else to say to you other than be more defensive in your gameplan. If you're being too aggressive you set yourself up to eat a RE.
run up to them and immediately sidestep and bait it, read their pattern of using it and punish accordingly. Just be more cautious.

All that matters are the key personnel, Dimps has always done a serviceable job when following instructions just not so much when given creative freedom (looking at you Sonic 4).

I dont understand that they can have team battle in los and other modes in previous games but no actual team battle mode in vs or online. Thet said they've been listening but they're actually not. Still wish for sc3 remastered.

Raphael has plenty of good options to shut down sidestep whether you're in stance or not. Other characters may have even better horizontals, but the range + speed combination of Raphael's verticals are unmatched. In other words, it doesn't matter because all characters compensate for weaknesses in different ways. You simply need to use him correctly. From my own experience, Raphael is definitely stronger compared to SCV and even in that game, he was far from weak. You're just another one of those people who disregards or doesn't know about any of his strong tools and acts like sidestep destroys Raphael's game plan. It doesn't, you just don't know what you're talking about.

Just round-robined this with like 4 of my friends and i love this game so much. Also doesn't hurt at all that like 6 of my closer dorm friends all at least have a slight interest in SC.
